GeneralsJoes reviews Shout Factory’s Predacons Rising on Blu-Ray

Transformers Prime just wrapped up its illustrious and ground-breaking three season run on The Hub, but three seasons wasn’t quite enough to tell the whole Transformers tale.  To truly close off this multi-season epic story arc, Shout! Factory has produced a DVD/Blu-Ray exclusive movie feature entitled Predacons Rising!

Taking place shortly after the huge events in the series finale of Transformers: Prime, Predacons Rising changes the landscape of the Prime universe forever.

Hitting retal on Blu-Ray and DVD October 8th, GeneralsJoes is proud to present a review of this excellent release right here.

GeneralsJoes reviews Transformers: Prime Complete Season Two on Blu-Ray

Yes, it was G.I. Joe: Renegades that brought me to The Hub, but Transformers: Prime has kept me here with the absence of G.I. Joe animation.  Getting steadily better with each episode, we now have the second season of Transformers: Prime out on Blu-Ray!

Shout! Factory was kind enough to supply me with a review copy, and you can check out the review in my Miscellaneous section, or  via the direct link below.

GeneralsJoes reviews Transformers: Prime Season 1 on Blu-Ray

No, it’s not a review of the as yet non-existent G.I. Joe: Renegades Season 1, which makes me a very sad panda.  But Transformers: Prime is a pretty darn good series in its own right, and seeing this action-packed animation in Blu-Ray quality is a sight to behold!

I had a chance to check this full season out extensively, and I can say it’s better than watching it the first time around, especially if you don’t have The Hub in HD (I don’t).

Reminder: Transformers Prime Season 1 on Blu-Ray and DVD March 6th

This is just a reminder to let folks know that on March 6th, the complete first season of Transformers: Prime will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc!  What does this mean for Joe fans?  Well, perhaps if sales are brisk enough for Transformers: Prime that means something good down the pipe for a potential G.I. Joe: Renegades…  maybe I’m reaching at straws, but I’ll take that chance.

I’ll be reviewing the Season boxed set closer to release, but until then, check out these great clips that have been posted online!  I actually really enjoy Transformers: Prime, and hopefully some attention on this boxed set will motivate Shout! Factory and Hasbro to get something similar done for G.I. Joe: Renegades.  We’ll see.  Enjoy the clips below!

GeneralsJoes Reviews Transformers Prime: Darkness Rising DVD

What’s this?  A Transformers review on a G.I. Joe site?  Gary from What’s on Joe Mind would be appalled.

Truth be told, as much as I ranted on and on about the wonder that is G.I. Joe: Renegades, The Hub has also brought a great Transformers animated series to existence as well in the form of Transformers Prime.  With some great production values, an awesome voice cast, and some impressive animation, the first 5-part series of Transformers Prime has been assembled as one feature length animated movie!

Priced at $14.97 it’s a great deal, and even includes some special content.  To see the full review click the link below!

Transformers: Prime – Darkness Rising arrives on DVD December 6th

Like many other Joe fans out there I was pretty depressed about the ultimate fate of G.I. Joe: Renegades on The Hub.  But the fact remains that Transformers: Prime currently airing on The Hub is a pretty fun animated series in its own right, and the landmark 5-part mini-series that started it all comes to DVD on December 6th as a full-length movie event!

I plan on reviewing the DVD upon release, but also figured G.I. Joe fans out there might want to be kept up to date on release information as well.  Shout! Factory has released a series of Trailers and Clips to showcase the animated series as the release date draws closer.  Check them all out after the jump!

G.I. Joe: Renegades has Transformers to thank for nice ratings boom

And hey, hopefully it will help expose more kids to the great universe of G.I. Joe: Renegades!

As we all know, Transformers: Prime returned to TV on February 11th, and while expectations were high for the return of the series, according to a Hub Press Release, Transformers went above and beyond those expectations, providing “massive time period increases versus prior four-week averages”.

Of course, with Renegades as a lead in, we had only great news for ratings for that show as well, which were “boosted significantly”.  I know that there is sometimes some strange antagonistic relationship between Joe fans and Transformers fans, but if Transformers: Prime is going to help get more exposure for G.I. Joe: Renegades, I’m all for it.

G.I. Joe: Renegades marathon on 12/30 and what else to expect for 2010

So the G.I. Joe: Renegades era has begun, and seems to have begun with a bang.  General consensus among the fandom seems to indicate folks are excited about G.I. Joe: Renegades and while reaction is based on some very early and very small samples, people seem enthusiastic about its potential.

But what about the rest of 2010?  What can we expect?

Well, using some online TV Listings sites, I compiled a short, but sweet episode guide that has been posted on the sidebar of my G.I. Joe: Renegades Superpage.

According to that guide, new G.I. Joe: Renegades episodes are expected to continue at least through December 24th.

The Hub has also sent along a press release mentioning that there will be a G.I. Joe: Renegades marathon on December 30th from 4:00pm – 7:00pm.  That time slot will accommodate 6 episodes, which leaves me wondering what about Episode 7?

At this point, it’s unknown when more episodes of G.I. Joe: Renegades will air after the Christmas Eve showing and subsequent December 30th marathon.  One thing that we do know is that after the 5-Part mini-series, Transformers: Prime will not air again until February, 2011.  Does the same fate await G.I. Joe: Renegades?  Time will tell.

Personally, I much prefer the fact that G.I. Joe is doing an episode per week through the end of the year…then even if there is a gap, it’s only about a one-month gap.  Prime, on the other hand, airs until this Friday, and then disappears for at least 8 weeks if not longer.

One thing I do know is that the debut of Renegades has sparked a lot of excitement in certain corners of the fandom, and some great conversation.  I know there are plenty of folks who disagree, but I like having this new continuity to spark interest in the fandom once again.  It’s refreshing after a lot of the same conversations over the past few years.

Oh, yeah, there’s another show on The Hub today, too…

You know, something has kind of gotten lost in the shuffle, at least on my end, regarding the animated goodness that is to come later on this evening.  I’ve already gone over how much I’m looking forward to G.I. Joe: Renegades, and of course, I’ve talked about Avengers, and even Young Justice.

But what about this whole Transformers: Prime thing?

Since the days of Beast Wars, I’ve been loving the animated universes of the Transformers (well…  besides the whole Armada/Energon/Whatever fiasco) and you would think this next generation of Transformers animated coolness would have me excited.  But it’s kind of gotten lost in the shuffle.  I think part of me has kind of been looking forward to it, but with all of the Renegades furor, I hadn’t really thought about it a whole lot.

Well, the guys over at Seibertron have thought about it, and even received early screeners for it, and posted a review.

Okay, I’m officially excited.

Certainly the discerning folks at are more well versed in Transformers lore than I am, and probably are harsher judges of how a new animated universe fits into the whole mythology, but they seem pretty enamored with it already.  They claim it takes the best parts of Beast Wars and the best parts of the live action films and blends them all together into a very serious, “aggressive” story…and I really like the sounds of that.

So yes, most of my giddy impatience tomorrow will be waiting for 5:00pm and the debut of G.I. Joe: Renegades, but I will be honest and say a healthy portion of the excitement is also now reserved for Transformers: Prime.  Two cool looking reinventions of the 80’s corner stones of after school animated greatness.  Could we be on the verge of another golden age of boys action animation?  Certainly seems possible.  Even as the father of two girls, I’m all for it.
