G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club art extravaganza for the FSS!

Wow!  Hopefully Joe fans out there are following the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club in all their various iterations, because they unleashed a barrage of sneak previews for artwork from the upcoming FSS (Figure Subscription Service)!  These reveals include the full card art for Quarrel and Nano-Bat as well as sneak peeks of Iron Klaw, Jinx, and Topside!

Make sure your eyes are glued to the GIJCC on Twitter, Facebook, and on GIJoeClub.com to keep up to date on all the latest FSS information!  Also check out the mirrored images below.

I will say I’ve seen a lot of people talking trash about the artwork as well…and while I’m not necessarily head over heels about the art either, I think the limitations more lie with the source material than with the work being done with it.  Let’s all face it, the art we got in the 25th Anniversary line was nothing to fawn over.  It took inspiration from the classics, but was not even in the same league with the likes of Dave Dorman.  The Club is working with what they have, and in some cases it works, and in some cases it doesn’t, but in my eyes, the biggest limitations are the source images.

Of course, this isn’t true of Jinx, which is based on the awesome City Strike Scarlett by Mike Thompson, but personally, from what I see, the Jinx looks pretty damn good.

Look, I’m not a MOC collector anyway, so it doesn’t impact me much one way or the other, but I do think we need to cut the Club a little slack on this one.  They’re working with existing art from the Hasbro libraries that isn’t the best to begin with, and what they’re doing is certainly right on par with what we’ve seen in the 25th Anniversary line already.  At least that’s my opinion.  We’ve been spoiled by the Pursuit of Cobra stuff and even the Rise of Cobra stuff, which was exponentially better from a package art perspective, but I think these figures are really being designed to blend with the existing 25th Anniversary stuff, and do a perfectly fine job at it.

Up close look of GIJCC Topside new head sculpt

It was only this past weekend that we got our first look at the upcoming G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club subscription Topside action figure.  While the bulk of the figure is reused tooling, the head sculpt appeared to be new.

Well, we now have confirmation that the head sculpt is indeed new, and not only is it new, it is awesome.  Yes, it is just a bearded head sculpt, but the detail is impressive, even for just a simple look.  It is truly astounding just how far the head sculpting has come in the past few years.  I’m not even that big a fan of Topside, but I’ll be damned if that head sculpt doesn’t almost sell me on this guy.  So much character crammed into one tiny, sculpted face.

Check it out at the GIJCC Facebook page, or mirrored below.

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club reveals subscription figure – TOPSIDE!

It’s been a while since we heard an update about the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club subscription, but the Club has come through today.  Many fans spotted a Topside battle stand in the display case at NYCC, but without a figure standing upon it.

Well, now we get our first look at the figure, and it looks great!  I will admit I’m not a gigantic Topside fan, but this figure certainly resembles the classic counterpoint very well and will look good in the Anniversary line amongst your others.  Very nice colors, looks like a new head sculpt, too.  Good stuff.  The context of the email and the image can be seen below:

New York ComicCon Coverage – Day One

So this is getting posted a little late as I sift through various sites of coverage, but figured better late than never.

First and foremost, serious props to GeneralsJoes follower Rob, who read that I was not going to be able to be in New York this week and graciously offered his services to take some pictures at the Con!  Below are his excellent images, exclusive to GeneralsJoes:

Again, a huge thanks to Rob for the hook up.  I think these images to answer a lot of fan questions about accessories.  Lifeline, Sci-Fi, Airtight, and others clearly come with most of the previously revealed accessories, so I think fan fears that those would be heavily cut are unfounded.

In other news, rumors abound that “Topside” has been confirmed as one of the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club subscription figures, but no images are yet available.  Perhaps later on in the weekend.

I’m sure I’m not alone getting fired up about this image:

Hasbro registered for a trademark earlier this year, looking to produce a movie encompassing various different brands.  Don’t jump to the whole “oh man, MASK toys are coming back!!11!11!” bandwagon, but some exposure is better than none.  Cool poster.

Courtesy of the Twitter Page for ARealAmericanHero.com, we have a very cool video of the Hasbro display booth:

Last, but certainly not least…if you want good pictures of these items, just hit up Toy News International.  Fantastic galleries, really nice detail on all of the figures.  Excellent stuff.

I’m still not convinced we won’t see more throughout the weekend, so keep checking back!
