Okay, when it rains it pours seems like the appropriate sentiment here.
After a relatively quiet weekend for G.I. Joe news, it has been coming fast and furious this late afternoon and evening. Obviously highlighted by the footage from G.I. Joe: Retaliation and the revelation of the GIJCC Barrel Roll…but still some other very cool and interesting intel comes from Nirvana at HissTank.com.
Apparently at a local Wal-Mart he purchased a trio of Steel Brigade figures… with a Snake Eyes body.
Up until this point, all Steel Brigade figures had come with the Shock Trooper legs and arms with the cool elbow pads and multi-colored sleeves. Well, apparently there just might be either a running change or a variant, and we might expect future figures to instead come with the Pursuit of Cobra Snake Eyes underneath. An interesting development to be sure.
Check out the thread at HissTank.com and also take a peek at the mirrored images below. Curious that he doesn’t seem to come with a pistol for that new holster, and he obviously also has the different kneepads to go along with the new legs. A neat change, and a cool way to bring some variety to your G.I. Joe army builders. Thanks to Gyre Viper for the heads up, who it should be noted, has a test shot with this different version of the Steel Brigade figure in his possession.
I posted the review for the 30th Anniversary Steel Brigade and Iron Grenadier last night, and I erroneously noted a few “differences” between the Pursuit of Cobra Steel Brigade and the 30th Anniversary Steel Brigade figure.
When I opened my PoC Steel Brigade figure, somehow I must have lost track of the SCAR machine gun, and didn’t notice that he had it…and my PoC Steel Brigade figure also had clean arms. However, I am getting reports that the PoC Steel Brigade figure did indeed have paint wash on his arms and did come with the SCAR.
It seems like a very long time ago that we got our first glimpse of the 30th Anniversary figures… in fact, it was back at Toy Fair in February when many of these toys made their first debut. While most Joe fans are used to a big splash with the first wave of a new assortment, this time around, we got let into the pool gently, with an initial wave consisting mostly of repaints and re-releases.
The two figures I will look at first are remarkably similar to their previous versions, both found in the Pursuit of Cobra Waves 5 and 6. Being the very cool troop builders that they are, though, not many folks complained.
We’ve seen some scattered images throughout the ‘net and at Toy Fair and JoeCon, but G.I. Joe ubercollector Gyre Viper got his hands on some early samples of the Steel Brigade Delta figure (slated to come with the VAMP) and the Air-Viper figure (who comes with the Black Dragon VTOL).
As he is wont to do, he took the figures outside to showcase them and took a wealth of awesome pictures, which I have mirrored below. He posted the intel initially over on JoeDeclassified.
A big thanks to Gyre Viper for these pics! I already thought the Steel Brigade Delta figure looked pretty cool, but man, he looks amazing now. A totally new head sculpt and a newly tooled helmet over it. Awesome touch.
I posted the first half of the PoC Wave 5 reviews yesterday, and am posting the second half today, over on the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page. You can hit up that page, or just click the links below to go directly.
Been a busy couple of weeks for Gyre Viper over at JoeDeclassified! We got Pursuit of Cobra Wave 6 images, then the Skystriker w/ Ace, and now we’ve got Wave 5 of the Pursuit of Cobra figures!
There has been debate online about which wave is better, 5 or 6, and to me its hit or miss, but there are some sure fire winners in both. Wave 5 gives us an awesome update to the Steel Brigade, a great looking General Hawk, and an impressive looking Cobra Trooper. Gyre Viper has also graciously allowed me to host these images on GeneralsJoes, so you can either hit up JoeDeclassified or see the mirrored images below.
Well, it looks like things have changed a little bit since Toy Fair, and mostly for the better. Site sponsors Big Bad Toy Store and Past Generation Toys have posted some new press images for the upcoming 3rd wave of 2011 Pursuit of Cobra figures, and there is a very interesting alteration:
While most of the subtle coloring differences are mostly a result of Photoshop, one look at Cobra Commander tells us that his legs are being reused from the previous version instead of the classic Cobra Commander look. I think it’s a big improvement. It will be interesting to see what the final result looks like.
Over the past week we’ve received some conflicting information about upcoming releases from G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra, but it would appear that things have somewhat ironed out. Several online retailers including Big Bad Toy Store, Entertainment Earth, and Small Joes have received information from Hasbro that seems to finally confirm what waves 3 and 4 for 2011 will consist of. This is how it shakes out:
2011 Wave 3 (AKA “Wave 5”)
Cobra – The Enemy
2011 Wave 4 (AKA “Wave 6”)
Snake Eyes Temple Guardian
To pre-order, make sure to visit Small Joes, Big Bad Toy Store (wave 3 and wave 4), or Entertainment Earth (wave “5” and wave “6”). Now, just to get some pictures! Keep your eyes peeled to GeneralsJoes.com next weekend as I visit New York City and attend the 2011 Toy Fair!
