EDIT – Ah, the perils of the rumor mill… El Mayimbe is already backing down on his supposition about Sam Strike, based on some inside conversations, so I guess it’s time to hold back on these particular rumors.
But hey, at least it gave me an excuse to post that awesome GIF.
I’ll admit, I don’t know him myself, but the always reliable Umberto Gonzalez at Latino-Review put some puzzle pieces together over on Instagram that certainly lead some credence to this rumor.
After all, Latino-Review was the first site to break the rumor that Spider-Man would possibly be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe at all, so I feel pretty confident in their ability to assemble these clues into something cohesive.
Sam Strike hasn’t had a wealth of film experience, but he fits the age bracket and the look. Check out his IMDB page and let the rumor mill keep churning.
I’m doing something a bit new with this particular post. Over on Twitter, I’ve been in pretty active conversations with many fellow bloggers who focus on pop culture and the whole 80’s phenomenon. Well, the owner and admin over at Cool & Collected has started a neat initiative, entitled the “League of Extraordinary Bloggers” where several folks invested in pop culture would tackle a similar topic, and all of us would cross-link to each other in an attempt to create cool community atmosphere. I know not nearly all of my readers are on Twitter and can appreciate the great interactive atmosphere we form there, so I thought if I took part in some of these posts it would be a cool way to give my readers access to some other pop culture blogs apart from the same G.I. Joe wordsmithing you get here.
A word of warning…because these are pop culture topics and 80’s topics, it won’t necessarily have a G.I. Joe focus. This one doesn’t necessarily, though you will see a G.I. Joe cameo later on, I promise you.
In all seriousness… it’s safe to say I’ve been a fan of Marvel cartoons since day 1…actually, Marvel TV shows and movies in general. Channel 56 out of Boston would show a “Creature Double Feature” on Saturdays every weekend, and I would ALWAYS make sure to tune in, because sometimes, just sometimes, they would show the old school 70’s Amazing Spider-Man TV show. Yeah, you know the one.
