Ahh, Skydive. You mean, mustachioed SOB…

One look at Skydive back in the day and you immediately wanted to eat all your vegetables and do your homework, he just had that kind of a-hole dad look to him with his close-cropped hair and tightly manicured lip fuzz. Still, it was a head sculpt that had a ton of character, and even on top of a really bizarre figure like the COBRA Gyro-Viper he looked like he was on top of his stuff.

This new version manages to take what was great about the classic version and make it even better, with some interesting twists along the way.

Essentially the modern Skydive is 25th Anniversary Mutt’s head on the G.I. Joe: Retaliation Data-Viper’s body from the neck down. Thick, padded uniform, amazing articulation, and a really great overall figure gives you a look and feel of a flight suit. Heck, the Retalition Lift Ticket’s already wearing it as one. The great thing about the Data Viper parts, too, is that with the right paint, the trim work jumps off the blue background
of the uniform and almost ties together as the classic version did with those strange hoses and ports of the original Skydive.

Even though there are no new parts here, the parts were obviously chosen with a specific look in mind and they work eminently well. Silver trim on the torso, and the white colored padding are both nice and bright and break up the royal blue underneath very well.

I admit to being a little surprised that the Mutt head works as well as it does. With the brown hair, moustache, and especially with the silver helmet on, you can barely tell it’s Mutt (or Bazooka for that matter).

Accessories

Like Drop Zone, Skydive comes with the really fun Rise of COBRA jetpack done up in a great blue/silver color scheme. He’s got Agent Mouse’s tactical helmet, which is fantastic, as well as goggles that can slide over the helmet to replicate his vintage look, or even pull down over his eyes for added realism. Finishing off his gear is a military assault rifle. His accessory compliment is pretty much perfect, with the right balance of offensive
weapons and accessories that work well off his vintage version.

Skydive is fantastic. Yes, Data Viper has become a defacto standard for modern figures, the same way Shock Trooper and Snake Eyes were before him, but when the base figure is that good, it’s very difficult to complain. The paint work is nearly perfect, the parts choices work to near excellence, and the accessories are just right. This is a very well done update and an excellent addition to your modern era officer corps.

Yes, Alexx still brings the awesome

I have been woefully negligent in posting recent installments of the “Alexx Shorts” which he posts on various places like JoeBattleLines.com.  Alexx does awesome reviews of G.I. Joe items, but adds his own twisted humorous twist, and I am absolutely in love with them.

For whatever reason, even though I’ve been reading them and enjoying them, I haven’t been posting them.  Shame on me!  Here’s some catch up from Wave 4…the links will take you back to JBL where he posted them to begin with.

GeneralsJoes Reviews Pursuit of Cobra Wave 4

No scattered reviews this time around…we’re diving right into the whole assortment!

My G.I. Joe: Pursuit of Cobra Wave 4 figures arrived very late Friday evening, and I spent several hours this past weekend diving right into reviews.  I know I’ve been accused of hyperbole in the past, but I will say without hesitation that these four figures are among the coolest figures in the entire run of the Pursuit of Cobra line, and with a toyline like this one, that is really saying something.

These figures are awesome.  Simply awesome.  Check out the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page or hit the links below directly:

These are four excellent figures.  It really makes me look forward to seeing what Hasbro has up their sleeves for 2011.  Based on how much they’ve improved over the past 12 months, I can only imagine what greatness we have in store for us over the next 12.

Some great Pursuit of Cobra Wave 4 images

So the fourth wave of the Pursuit of Cobra figures are trickling in, and ShockVal from Hiss Tank got his set in hand already!  Not only that, but he’s posted some great images right here.

These new images have shed some light on the figures somewhat…  Destro looks to mostly be the Arctic Threat version underneath the armor.  Low Light looks to be some amalgamation from Pursuit of Cobra Beachhead and some others.

Regardless, some great pictures, including some without gear, and other images of just the gear.  Check out the mirrored images below.

New images posted for Pursuit of Cobra Wave 4

With Wave 3 on the horizon, images are starting to leak out for the upcoming fourth wave of G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra. Featuring Lowlight, Destro, Shadow Tracker, and Skydive (and notoriously devoid of Dukes, Snake Eyes, or Storm Shadows) this wave looks fantastic.  Granted, many folks already got their hands on the Skydive figure through backdoor means as Desert Battle Ripcord, but for those who haven’t, he is one of the best figures in the Pursuit of Cobra line.  Add to that this awesome Destro, the absolutely amazing Lowlight, and of course Shadow Tracker, and you have a wave that pretty much hits a home run with every single figure.

Great stuff.  Thanks to Corey Stinson of SmallJoes.com for the info!

G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra Wave 4 Pre-Orders at Past Generation Toys

Hot of the heels of the Diamond announcement, Past Generation Toys has announced pre-orders for the upcoming 4th wave of G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra.  These figures should be hitting very early 2011.  The announcement can be read below!

Past Generation Toys has listed GI Joe Pursuit of Cobra Wave 4 as PreOrders. It’s due to be released in late January of 2011 and includes Destro v3, Low Light v1, Sky Dive v1 and the highly anticipated Shadow Tracker v1.

Release date information and awesome character art for PoC Wave 4

Damn.  We should get crap like this more often.  I’ve been really enjoying the character art on the packages of the Pursuit of Cobra toys, but a lot of it is obscured by the packaging itself, or just shot from the waist up.  Well, Diamond Distributors has given us some updated information about a release timeline for the fourth wave of Pursuit of Cobra figures, and included with that some bad ass full body character art.

Awesome.

This is the text of the Diamond release details:

“POC WAVE 4:

For over twenty-five years G.I. Joe has been defending America and the cause of freedom from the evils of Cobra! Characters like Destro (Version 3), Low Light, Skydive, and Shadow Tracker enter the fight for the fate of the world as these 3 3/4″ figures! Blister card packaging.

Estimated ship date: 1/26/11″

With a ship date this early for the fourth wave of product, I would be shocked if we didn’t see something else hit next spring…perhaps an additional wave or something?  Hopefully we’ll get more information soon!  Thanks to SNAKE EYES from HissTank.com and The Terror Drome for this information.
