Todd Pleasant provides some details on the upcoming AT Comic

As February draws closer, the release of the latest G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club newsletter gets closer, and we find out what this interesting “freebie” the Club has promised ends up being.  Another awesome landmark event, though, is the return of Rod Whigham to the G.I. Joe universe!  Yes, he’s been providing alternate covers to G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series by Larry Hama, but this Adventure Team book will mark his triumphant return to internal comics pages.

I am absolutely psyched.  Mr. Whigham was far and away my favorite artist during the long tenure of the original Marvel comic series, and seeing him pen the Joe universe again (even an Adventure Team one) is going to be awesome.

Todd Pleasant, who is writing the series also swung by the GeneralsJoes comments section and gave some intel on the upcoming book as well:

“Rod’s work on the comic is truly amazing. He brings life to the AT in way we have never seen. It has been great being involved with this project, and a pleasure to work with such a consummate professional.

The profiles are intended to flesh out and add dimension to the characters featured the serial. We have a number story lines in the works, and I am hoping to work in some prehistory for the Team. Including how each of the members were recruited. We get a sample of that in the first episode as we tag along with the Commander on headhunting mission.”

Todd also is part of the team that gives us the Regular Joes comic in the Collectors’ Club newsletter, and also was one of the folks behind the absolutely awesome AESOP dio-comic back in the day.  Personally, I can’t wait to see what we’re going to get.

More cool surprises from the February issue of the Collectors’ Club newsletter

Earlier today I passed along word that the February issue of the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club Newsletter would feature an interesting freebie and encouraged folks to join.  Well, while we still don’t exactly know what the freebie is, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club Facebook Page provided some more cool info about the February issue!

“A NEW regular feature of the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club magazine will be a running Adventure Team comic in serial format! Each issue will feature two pages of story and art by Tod Pleasant and Rod Whigham!   The first two pager will debut in the February issue of the Club magazine….”

That’s right!  A NEW Adventure Team comic story…but the best part?  Art by Rod Whigham!  That makes my freaking day.  I love seeing his covers for the IDW G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero books, seeing actual internal art in a G.I. Joe comic again will be fantastic.

Can’t wait.  If you want to join up in time for the February issue, check out GIJoeClub.com now!

Five-Page previews for IDW G.I. Joe Origins #21 and RAH #160

I have been woefully behind the 8 ball in reviewing IDW’s G.I. Joe titles, but I’ve got a few in the queue, now that I made my most recent trip to my local comic shop.  Unfortunately, in my neck of the woods “local” is a relative term, and I can usually only hit the shop once in a while, so I try to get a handful of books at once.  For that reason, you will likely see a small bunch of reviews posted within the next couple of days.

Among those will be the two books being released tomorrow, G.I. Joe: Origins #21 and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #160.  While you wait with baited breath for the reviews to go up, here are some 5-page previews for these two upcoming issues.

Torture is the routine and Monk is singled out for extra attention. If the camp doesn’t break him, then his first mission might have him wondering whose side he’s on. There’s no bottom to this rabbit hole.

IDW October Solicitations reveal Renegades Comic from IDW

IDW Publications has revealed their comic solicitations for October just in time for SDCC, and there are some interesting news nuggets to be had.

First and foremost is the beginning of a G.I. Joe: Renegades comic based on the animated series starting this fall!  Excellent.  That is probably the thing I’m most looking forward to at SDCC…more info about Renegades.

Also of note is the cover for the October issue of the main G.I. Joe title.  Up until now, Storm Shadow has been notable by his unexplained absence throughout the title, but apparently that’s going to change very soon…  also, it looks as though G.I. Joe #23 will finally debut Helix in the mainstream G.I. Joe book.

Click the “Read the rest of this entry” link below to get the rundown on all of the October G.I. Joe solicits.

A big thanks to The Terror Drome for gathering this info so I could get it posted more easily while on the road this morning.
