What’s on Joe Mind Episode 54 is online now!

The guys jump back into our regular weekly show with a full compliment this time around as Chuck, Gary, Mike and myself all come together to uncover more G.I. Joe related secrets!  I’m sure everyone remembers that little 16 bit G.I. Joe themed game that was floating around the internet a few weeks ago, Attack on Cobra Island?  Well, we dig down into the center of it in this show, tracking down and interviewing the mysterious creator behind the video game.  He gave us some terrific insight and information about the game, tells us its current status (PS, you can download it RIGHT NOW) and what happened with the whole Hasbro situation.

We also took a few minutes to talk to Counterpunch from the Seibertron Twincast Podcast to uncover how Transformers fans feel about Fun Publications and the Collectors’ Club, and I think G.I. Joe fans will find some of his responses very interesting.  Check it out at our Podbean page, or via the embedded player below.  Don’t forget, Show Notes are after the jump.

GeneralsJoes Reviews final 2 Target Exclusive Vehicle Sets

No longer “canceled”, the third wave of “Target Exclusive” vehicle sets are now hitting Ross Stores nationwide (well…for folks unlike me who actually have one within 350 miles, anyway).

Thankfully I have some very kind readers who have extended their generosity and allowed me to get my full of these vehicle sets at killer prices.  I reviewed two of them yesterday, and today I will add the final two to the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page.  Check out the links below.

Formerly cancelled Target exclusives on sale at ROSS!!

Granted, I’m one of the lucky ones who grabbed the full set of four of these from eBay last week, but this is just crazy.  Just as the Rise of Cobra was morphing into the Pursuit of Cobra, a number of items were solicited, and some items were destined for the dustbin of history, including the final wave of Target Exclusives.  Initially this wave was slated to come with the Trubble Bubble w/ Elite-Viper, Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper, Air Assault Glider w/ Capt. Ace, and the RAM w/ Sandstorm.

These items have sold for upwards near $300 on the secondary market, and now you can get them for six bones a pop at your local Ross stores.

At least, I’m assuming some folks have these locally.  Myself?  The nearest Ross is 350+ miles away.

If anyone gets their hands on a few Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Vipers, feel free to let me know.  I’d love to have a little squad of these babies, but I’ve got no Ross stores locally.  I will be getting my eBay one this week, and at least this makes my decision to open them much easier.  Reviews will be coming!

Check out some mirrored images below, and a huge thanks to japanX80 of HissTank.com for the info.

Weekend Recap – Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper

Alongside the Desert Battle RAM w/ Sandstorm, Rulz has also posted via HissTank.com some great pictures of the COBRA Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper, another release in that same boxed set assortment that, honestly, blows away anything we’ve gotten so far, in my opinion.  LOVE that RAM w/ Sandstorm, and I’m quickly falling for this Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper as well.  The Range-Viper base figure in the COBRA Island boxed set was fantastic, and in this new, more subdued paint scheme, he is even better.  Very cool stuff.

More pre-production Gyre-Viper pics – Mail Away Cobra Commander!

I’ve been a bit behind the eight ball over the past couple of days while I deal with some home-related issues, but since I was posting the Resolute DVD review, I had to get something up there for the two most recent Gyre-Viper discoveries over at HissTank.com.

Man, I love seeing this stuff…both from an unproduced or pre-production perspective, but also because it gives us some great detail on figures that are “in the hopper”…and I was pretty psyched about that mail away Cobra Commander.  Now, I’m way beyond psyched.  This guy looks in SANE.  The dark chrome red finish on the torso is cool enough, but that rough metallic facemask is just too cool for words.  Much more imposing than the previous version.  I really like it…more than I thought I would.  Gotta love the removable twin-barrel machine gun from the HISS Tank drone, too.  Check out the original thread, or the mirrored images below.

The Whirlwind stuff is cool, number one because we get a peek at the original paint scheme (at least a little bit) for the vehicle that was slated to come with Recondo.  But at this point what really interests me is that Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper.  I know a lot of folks have been complaining about the green, but I love it.  The Range-Viper has always been designed as a wilderness trooper, so the green and gray are awesome colors.  I do think it will look a bit less “sparkly” in person…the coolest thing to me about this particular Range-Viper, though, is that it uses the Resolute Trooper as a base figure, so not only does it have some great articulation and design aesthetics, but it can be used as a “Death Squad” trooper of sorts in your Resolute universe.  Oh, and I guess the Cobra Whirlwind repaint is okay, too.  :shifty:

Check those out here, and below.

Boxed images for upcoming mini-vehicle Pursuit of Cobra sets

dawg99 over at HissTank.com has posted a nice image of all four of the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra mini-vehicle sets mint in their boxes…and I’m really surprised.  The packaging is surprisingly nice!  For the record, this appears to be the breakdown:

  • Air Assault Glider w/ Capt. Ace (Arctic Assault)
  • RAM Cycle w/ Sandstorm (Desert Battle)
  • Jungle Terror Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper (Jungle Assault)
  • COBRA Flight Pod w/ Elite-Viper (City Strike)

I’m amazed that they managed to get that Whirlwind shoe-horned into that tiny box…impressive.  If these sell for the same price as current versions, I’ll buy a few of those if I can find ’em.  Check out the image below.

Loose images of Pursuit of Cobra Target Mini-Vehicles emerge

We’ve seen other images already, but they were pretty low on detail…now HissTank.com has some loose images up which are looking at least a bit better and clearer.  Mirrored below are images for the following:

  • Cobra Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper
  • Flight Pod w/ Elite-Viper
  • RAM w/ Sandstorm
  • Glider w/ Capt. Ace
  • Water Moccasin w/ Copperhead & Swamp-Viper

When Hasbro does good, they do really, really good, but when they do bad, it’s pretty bad.  And I gotta say that Glider and Water Moccasin, in my opinion, are pretty damn bad.  I mean, Capt. Ace with a moustache?  That’s Tripwire’s head anyway, so why the heck paint a fake moustache on there for a guy who’s not supposed to have one?  Or if you must paint one on there, why not just make this Slipstream?  I gotta tell you, too, I’m feeling pretty sorry for poor AVAC…he keeps getting saddled with terrible paint schemes and new specialties.  First he was a pretty bad ass red and silver, then he turns into pukey purple with the CLAW, and now he’s poop green and brown as a “Swamp-Viper”.  Enh.  Not high on my list.

The others, though, are impressive.  Love the Range-Viper and Whirlwind…that Elite-Viper in red is pretty damn cool, too, I gotta admit.  Hell, even Sandstorm with the basic Reactive Armor torso and desert camouflage pants is pretty bad ass, and he’ll fit in real nice with the Toys “R” Us Troop Builder packs.  Considering I haven’t loved any of the Target exclusive mini vehicles I’ve seen yet (except the SNAKE) these are looking really nice.  Check out the images yourself:

Images of upcoming third wave of Target Exclusive vehicle packs

We got a very light glimpse of this third wave of Target Exclusive vehicles during JoeCon a couple of months ago, but the images were shoddy at best and impossible to see at worst.  The sounds and overall look of the packs seemed like winners over all, but I was reserving judgement until we saw some actually legible images.

Well, thanks to HissTank, we’ve got some images now, and I am SOLD.  Capt. Ace w/ the Glider leaves me totally cold, but the other three sets all have some very nice redeeming factors, especially if these hit at the same price point as past Target exclusive vehicles.  This is what we’ve got to look forward to:

  • Cobra Flight Pod w/ Elite-Viper; Damn!  Elite Viper looks GREAT with the red armor and the red camouflage pants.  I love this look…really love it.  The crimson Trubble  Bubble is iffy, but the figure more than makes up for it.  Very impressed with this.
  • RAM w/ Sandstorm; Hell yeah.  I love the RAM, and seeing it in desert paint scheme is pretty cool, but again, it’s all about the figure.  He looks like your basic Reactive Armor Joe with the Resolute Duke helmet and some desert camouflage pants, but I think the look is still great.  The fact that the Pursuit of Cobra Zartan supposedly comes with a Sandstorm costume only furthers the “legacy” of this new character as well.
  • Cobra Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper;  WOW.  I love the Whirlwind, and it looks bad ass in these Cobra colors…but what makes this set is the Range-Viper!  My favorite figure from the Defense of Cobra Island was awesome enough, even in bright blue and yellow.  Seeing it in muted grays and blacks is only more bad ass than it was before.  Gorgeous.  I cannot wait to get this set in hand.
  • Glider w/ Capt. Ace; Ehhh…  no thanks.  Basically a Slipstream repaint in strange urban camouflage with the same Glider we’ve seen several times already.  This one is a definite miss, but it’s the only one in this assortment that I’m not crazy about.

For mirrored images check below.  Very excited for this wave!

Catching up – More info from Hasbro Panel at JoeCon 2009

Still playing a bit of catch up today and yesterday with JoeCon intel as I was on the road for a lot of the excitement, then ended up at work until after midnight with a Firewall/Switch issue.  When it rains, it pours…

Anyway, a spontaneous Hasbro round table was held yesterday in conjunction with the Rise of COBRA panel, and they showcased a lot of images of upcoming 2010 exclusive items, mostly available at Toys “R” Us and Target stores.  They also talked about some “zipcord” figure/vehicle sets intended for the kids’ market, but those vehicles will come with fully functional Pursuit of COBRA action figures in them.  They are listed as follows:

Rip Attack Zipcord Vehicles

  • JetStorm Cycle w/ Snake Eyes
  • Tiger Snake w/ Street-Viper

Target Exclusives

  • RAM w/ Sandstorm (the Joe that Zartan kills and disguises himself as!)
  • Trouble Bubble w/ Elite-Viper
  • Glider w/ Ace
  • Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper (a darker colored Range-Viper from the 7-Pack?  SOLD!)

Toys “R” Us Exclusives

  • Single Pack Doc (Arctic Threat)
  • Single Pack Shipwreck (Arctic Threat)
  • Sting Raider w/ Copperhead and Swamp-Viper (Swamp-Viper is an AVAC in green)

And in perhaps, some of the best news of the panel, Hasbro revealed they are retooling the Sigma 6 2.5″ Iron Hammer mechs to fit the full sized figures!  Hell yeah!

Images are mirrored below, courtesy of JoeBattleLines.com.

The panel also discussed Shadow Tracker, who is a COBRA tracker who refuses to use guns, and only uses melee weapons.  He was conceived of to work with Jungle-Vipers, who are all macked out on nanomites, and use advanced technology to pin down their targets, then Shadow Tracker goes in to finish them off.  A very cool team, and an absolutely bad ass looking figure.

Defense of COBRA Island Range-Viper pics on ACToys.net

Another day, another round of ACToys images from the upcoming Defense of COBRA Island 7-Pack, this time with the Range-Viper being the focus of attention.  We get some great images of his gear and the figure itself this time around.  Check out the great thread from 堕落了 here, and check out the images mirrored below as well!

Big thanks to WildWeasel of The Terror Drome for the information.
