The Baroness to be reformatted for G.I. Joe 3?

Take this with a grain of salt, as Rhett Reese  and Paul Wernick have not even been officially announced as the writers for the third G.I. Joe film, but according to IGN (who spoke to them directly) they are already filtering through ideas for G.I. Joe 3, and high on the list is bringing back The Baroness.

Personally, I can see why they’d want to revisit The Baroness, and hopefully re-orient her backstory a little bit… but it’s time for a little confession here.

I’m sick and damned tired of The Baroness.

Everywhere you look it’s The Baroness.  Everyone cos-plays as her, and she seems to be every comic writers favorite.  She’s littered throughout both the G.I. Joe main title and the G.I. Joe Special Missions title from IDW, and honestly, I thought the lack of Baroness in G.I. Joe 2 was refreshing.  Even though I loved G.I. Joe: Renegades, there’s no doubt that she’s now nearing Snake Eyes levels of overkill to me.  For whatever reason she’s become this huge focal character for the entire G.I. Joe mythology on the Cobra side, and I’m ready to shift focus to someone else.

Like… I don’t know… Destro maybe?

Regardless, it’s cool to hear that there are some plans in place for the third G.I. Joe movie, and according to IGN Dwayne Johnson has indicated he’s fully on board as well.  Looking forward to the lead up once again!

What’s On Joe Mind Special Edition #27 – Retaliation Recap!

Good morning, G.I. Joe fans!

A short while ago, a few of us on the What’s on Joe Mind podcast were fortunate enough to get Dave Tree on our show.  Dave had the distinction of being able to get to a screening of G.I. Joe: Retaliation nearly two weeks before official release, and was right on the show with a terrific report about the film.

Unfortunately, the information was embargoed, so the Podcast couldn’t launch until March 27th.  The special edition went live on that day thanks to the heroic efforts of Gary, but with my work and web schedule I hadn’t had a chance to post an update about it until now.  This was a fantastic special edition with Dave breaking down the film piece-by-piece.

Dave literally goes through the entire film and talks about events in the movie.  So for folks who don’t want spoilers, you’re gonna want to avoid this one.  Still some terrific insight.  Check it out on Podbean, or the embedded players below.

First off…

We’re not kidding.  If you listen to this and you don’t like spoilers BEFORE you see the movie, then its YOUR fault.  We recorded this a few weeks ago just hours after our man in the UK, Dave Tree, got to see an advance preview of GI Joe Retaliation.  While the details were fresh in his mind, he joined Justin and Gary to give his full, no holds barred report of the film.  You patiently waited THREE years since Rise of Cobra AND on top of that, ANOTHER NINE MONTH delay so they can convert it to 3D.  Now it is OUR time and OUR turn.  Is everything better in 3D?  Find out next, in this monumental and landmark special edition of WOJM!  Oh, and thanks to Jon Chu for the intro!

HUGE thanks as always to Dave and Russ for their tireless work in covering these events for us!!

GeneralsJoes interview with GI Joe Retaliation writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick

It is with yet another debt of gratitude that I thank Russ Sheath for once again agreeing to represent GeneralsJoes as he makes the rounds with Paramount and getting some fantastic interviews on the plate for G.I. Joe fans everywhere.  Russ is a contributor for Aint It Cool News, and the interview will be mirrored over there as well, but he has ever so graciously allowed GeneralsJoes a whack at it as well.  Just like with Director Jon Chu this weekend as well as the London Red Carpet Premiere, Russ (and Dave) from the UK have knocked the ball out of the park.

I cannot thank him or them enough.  As an added bonus, this interview is terrific!  Rheese and Wernick go into full G.I. Joe geek mode in some places, and add some really key insight into the backgrounds of the characters and the history behind this great franchise.
