Latest Operation: Takedown event brings Oktober Guard to the G.I. Joe Battleground universe!

There wasn’t much of a warning this time around, but G.I. Joe: Battleground has launched their latest event tonight, another round of their “Operation: Takedown” theme.  For the first time ever, we see the Oktober Guard in the G.I. Joe: Battleground universe, each with their own special bonus against the Takedown boss… Darklon!

I know folks have their questions about the game, but every time I see new artwork, I fall a little bit more in love with that aspect of the game.  I really love how the folks from DeNA are using so much source material from the G.I. Joe Collectors Club designs, which run rampant through this entire event.  Very cool.

Check out some screen caps below.

Turn around posted for FSS 2.0 Big Bear’s head sculpt

The Boss Fight Studios guys continue to post up their design work, and I couldn’t be happier!  Today over on their Facebook page, they posted the line art turn arounds for the upcoming FSS 2.0 Big Bear figure.  I love seeing this progress!

Check it out over at the Boss Fight Studio Facebook page, and I’ve also mirrored it below.

GIJoe Collectors Club “Did you Know”? with Dragonsky

Yeah, I’m running a little behind here, as the Collectors Club revealed this a few days ago, but better late than never.  They have posted another “Did You Know”? segment, this time featuring the Oktober Guard flamethrower specialist Dragonsky!

Along with outlining some facts about the character, they also revealed a snippet of his card art, which you can see below:

12 for ’12 – GeneralsJoes Top 12 G.I. Joe toys of 2012

One would think this would be a pretty easy, straight-forward article, right?  I mean, we barely had a wave of figures released, and the vehicles were by and large unremarkable, so what is the point of this discussion?

Well, I kind of thought so, too, but then I started looking into what we got this year, and it became evident, that even with G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s short-lived shelf life, there was still plenty of topics to dissect and plenty to talk about in regards to 2012’s slate of G.I. Joe toys.

Now, a pair of items kind of had me in a quandry.  While technically the Slaughter’s Marauders and Dreadnoks 7-Packs were shipped in 2012, I still consider them 2011 product.  They were announced and solicited in 2011, and I received my sets in 2011, even though many folks got them in 2012.  For that reason I did not include them when considering this list.

Any thoughts from the peanut gallery on that?

Pre-Orders for G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club Oktober Guard set remaining open

Along with the unfortunate news about the FSS subscription service delay, the G.I. Joe Collectors Club sends along an email in regards to the second run of the Oktober Guard Convention set.  Unfortunately they failed to meet the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) but some folks might consider that good news, as that means they are leaving the pre-orders open for the forseeable figure (until the shortfall is filled).

They seem to understand the limitations on finances during the holiday season, so hopefully this means more people will have access to buying this second run set!  I would envision that if this second run fails to sell out, chances of us seeing this happen with a future Convention set are little to none.

Check out the full email below.

“Hello everyone,

Our closing date for the second run of the Oktober Guard was yesterday.  However, we did not meet the MOQ (minimum order quantity) required by the manufacturer.  We are about 100 orders short.  Here is what we are going to do:   We are moving ahead and placing the order with the manufacturer so they will arrive in the spring.  We are also leaving the pre-orders open until the MOQ is sold.  Once these are gone, that’s it.

So, how much longer will you have to order them?  Unknown, just depends on how fast they go.  We know that the timing on this was not great, so we are hoping that by leaving the pre-orders open, more people will be able to get this fantastic set.

GeneralsJoes Reviews IDW Publishing COBRA #18

The teasers about the debut of the Oktober Guard have been handled really well, making it sound like a pretty major G.I. Joe universe event, which is cool in my eyes.  In the Marvel Universe, Larry treated the Oktober Guard pretty seriously, making them very impactful members of the G.I. Joe continuity, but they haven’t really gotten that much love in the toy world.  Sure we got the excellent comic packs in 2004, and of course the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club just blew us away with the Operation: Bear Trap Convention set, but beyond that, to folks who only know G.I. Joe through the cartoons and retail shelves, the Oktober Guard is relatively invisible.

Mike Costa and Antonio Fuso jump right into the world of these Russian Special Forces troops and take them in pretty different directions.  But what was the end result?
