GeneralsJoes reviews Figure Subscription Service Quarrel and Nano B.A.T.

Come on, I don’t need to put a spoiler warning up there do I?  These figures were shipped a few weeks ago, and I’m figuring by this point everyone knows what the second installment of the FSS was.  Continuing on my week-long review frenzy, the latest two G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club Figure Subscription Service figures have been added to the review archive!

JoeDeclassified drops a bombshell with cancelled Rise of Cobra barrage

You would think after three years we’d seen almost every canceled Rise of Cobra figure that was out there, but as usual, Gyre-Viper proves that thinking incorrect.  We’d heard rumors about these figures several times over the years, with the most solid information coming from package artist Mike Thompson, but for the first time ever, we are seeing plastic evidence of canceled Rise of Cobra figures Dr. Mindbender, Zap, and Budo.  Gyre-Viper also tosses in some more great images of Nano-B.A.T. while he’s at it, and to further prove the theory about these figures’ histories, Nano B.A.T. seems to come as part of the package with the other three figures.

Check out the very nice gallery of images at  Dr. Mindbender is a very interesting looking addition, with the 25th Anniversary head sculpt and some great purple gloves as homage to the original.  Budo is mostly a Resolute Training Storm Shadow with what looks like the Hard Master head and the belt/ceremonial skirt from the Valor Vs. Venom Slice. Zap is obviously the most straight-forward update.

Rumors have persisted that these are part of a canceled second series of Wal-Mart Exclusive 2-packs, and Mike Thompson believed that was the case as well.  Check out a few of the mirrored images below, and look at all these great pictures at  A huge thanks as always to Gyre-Viper for the pictures.

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club April Newsletter Sneak Preview!

With both the March and April newsletters running behind schedule, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has posted a terrific sneak preview of their upcoming April issue on!

I’ve gone on record saying that the newsletter has been hugely improved as of late, mostly pointing to the excellent comic contained within, featuring very cool cameos by many familiar GIJCC universe characters.  Looks like this continues on in April, where we see a great preview page of the comic featuring Nano-BAT, Footloose, Jammer, Gaucho, Quarrel, and Sparta!  An awesome selection of GIJCC themed designs, and I love seeing them in comic book form.  This is pretty much what I envisioned when I produced the dio comics for the newsletter a few years ago, but unfortunately my own schedule prevented me from continuing past 3 story arcs.  I commend the folks doing this comic for doing some great work here.

Check out the sneak preview on!

JoeDeclassified Spec Ops Podcast tackles Iron Klaw, Nano BAT and others

Gyre Viper and his excellent crew of cast mates have finished and posted the latest episode of the JoeDeclassified Spec Ops (JDSO) Podcast!  In this episode, they bite deep into the canceled Nano BAT, Iron Klaw, and even touch on the canceled Crimson Guard figure that was slated to come in the same comic pack as Iron Klaw.

Perhaps the coolest thing about this episode are the accompanied images, which have all been posted over at  These images show some incredibly awesome detail from the unreleased Iron Klaw, Nano BAT, and Crimson Guard.

Keep in mind, these are not the FSS figures, these samples were canceled figures initially slated to appear in the G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary line (Iron Klaw vs. Crimson Guard Trooper Comic Pack) and the Rise of Cobra line (Nano BAT).  The insight in this episode is awesome.

Check it out at JDSO’s Podbean page, and please also check out the accompanying images on  Some really awesome stuff here.  Kudos to these guys for such a great show.  Hopefully I’ll be joining them on it soon!

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club art extravaganza for the FSS!

Wow!  Hopefully Joe fans out there are following the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club in all their various iterations, because they unleashed a barrage of sneak previews for artwork from the upcoming FSS (Figure Subscription Service)!  These reveals include the full card art for Quarrel and Nano-Bat as well as sneak peeks of Iron Klaw, Jinx, and Topside!

Make sure your eyes are glued to the GIJCC on Twitter, Facebook, and on to keep up to date on all the latest FSS information!  Also check out the mirrored images below.

I will say I’ve seen a lot of people talking trash about the artwork as well…and while I’m not necessarily head over heels about the art either, I think the limitations more lie with the source material than with the work being done with it.  Let’s all face it, the art we got in the 25th Anniversary line was nothing to fawn over.  It took inspiration from the classics, but was not even in the same league with the likes of Dave Dorman.  The Club is working with what they have, and in some cases it works, and in some cases it doesn’t, but in my eyes, the biggest limitations are the source images.

Of course, this isn’t true of Jinx, which is based on the awesome City Strike Scarlett by Mike Thompson, but personally, from what I see, the Jinx looks pretty damn good.

Look, I’m not a MOC collector anyway, so it doesn’t impact me much one way or the other, but I do think we need to cut the Club a little slack on this one.  They’re working with existing art from the Hasbro libraries that isn’t the best to begin with, and what they’re doing is certainly right on par with what we’ve seen in the 25th Anniversary line already.  At least that’s my opinion.  We’ve been spoiled by the Pursuit of Cobra stuff and even the Rise of Cobra stuff, which was exponentially better from a package art perspective, but I think these figures are really being designed to blend with the existing 25th Anniversary stuff, and do a perfectly fine job at it.

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club reveals card art for FSS Nano-BAT!

Even with all of the FSS (Figure Subscription Service) subscription figures revealed, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club is keeping the reveals flying!  This time around, we get a peek at the card art for the upcoming Nano BAT!

Wow.  Very cool.  It’s essentially a photoshop recolor of the Defense of Cobra Island Battle Damaged B.A.T., but it looks terrific.  I’m sorta down on the whole Nano B.A.T. concept, but this art is impressive even to me.  Very nice.  Check out the G.I. Joe Club website for full details and the mirrored image below.

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club reveals a more final look at the Nano-BAT

While most of the images we’ve seen of Quarrel have been pretty consistent with expectations, early samples of the Nano-BAT lacked some of the more interesting details of the figure.  Well, the GIJCC fixes that tonight, with an image of a much more final version of the figure featuring some great transparent plastic arms and head.

According to reports at JoeCon, the figure also may feature light-piping in his head to give the figure a cool green glow.  Time will tell if that comes to pass.

Check out the image below, and keep your eyes on for the latest details on the subscription!

EDIT – On their Facebook Page, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club clarified as well, that the Nano B.A.T. will come with the undamaged head and a chestplate as well.
