The G.I. Joe: Battleground Congo Clash event launches tonight… with TRADING!

Yes, that’s right, G.I. Joe: Battleground players…the day many of us have been waiting for has finally arrived… according to the latest press release from DeNA, Card Trading functionality will be enabled tonight with the launch of their latest event: Congo Clash!

Congo Clash will give us some brand new event cards Lamprey, Roadblock, and another Legendary card: Serpentor!

Now I’ll be right up front…  not a big fan of the Legendary cards.  I’ve been playing this game religiously and diligently since it launched, and I still enjoy it immensely, but the concept of Legendary cards which are only available to the Top 30 players of a certain event really rubs me the wrong way.  We all know these card games are developed to make money, otherwise, why do them?  But I can think of other ways to reward players for spending cash other than designing extremely exclusive cards that those of us (some of whom DO spend money on the game) can never own.  I fear it will create a divide that allows the big spenders with rosters full of Legendary cards to basically walk over the rest of us.

But time will tell how it shakes out.  I’m keeping my mind open.  Meanwhile, I still loved the Major Bludd card from the last event, and I will happily pursue Lamprey and Roadblock as they look like two really awesome cards as well.  Details about the event below.

About the Congo Clash Event

On a routine flight patrol, the Joe’s Tiger Force has discovered a Cobra power base in the depths of the Congo. Tiger Force immediately engages in a heated firefight to destroy Cobra’s energy source in the region. In response to this threat, Cobra sends out Python Patrol to turn the tide of the battle in Cobra’s favor. Will Tiger Force or Python Patrol prevail and prove they’re the kings of the jungle? And more importantly, why is Cobra operating a power base out in the middle of nowhere? Find out when you play this week’s Congo Clash event!

New Trade Feature

Trading is now available in G.I. JOE: BATTLEGROUND! Players can now trade their favorite Joe and Cobra characters with each other. Trade and build the most powerful squads or trade to complete your collection of units. It’s time to look through all of your units to see which ones you need and what you’re willing to offer other players.

Exclusive comic available with $25.00 G.I. Joe purchase from

duke_lamprey_comicJeff reports that has started an offer for a free exclusive comic with the purchase of $25 worth of G.I. Joe product from their online store.  One look at the comic proves that it was the comic originally intended to be released with the Scuba Duke/Lamprey comic pack, and it could be a very neat read and a peek at something that didn’t end up getting published.

Written by Larry Hama, this continuity-vague book just focuses on telling a fun story the same way that many of the other Comic Pack stories did, while exploring these characters in a slightly different way.  To see some details about this offer click here.  The comic listing itself is here.

The features are as follows:

  • Introducing an all-new G.I. JOE™ adventure – inspired by the classic 1980s stories, and with a fresh, contemporary twist!
  • The legendary Larry Hama is back with a never-before-published story featuring some of your favorite characters.
  • Whether you’re a fan from way back, or just discovering the thrill of G.I. JOE vs. COBRA™, this adventure will keep you on the edge of your seat!
  • Exclusive Duke comic book – only at Amazon!
  • Don’t miss the new GI Joe movie!

Updated pics of Lamprey repaint at

GeneralsJoes buddy Smokescreen has posted some very nice images over at his site, of the yet-to-be released black and red Lamprey repaint.  According to the images, the helmet looks to be completely new compared to the 7-Pack version, and has a pretty awesome rebreather that hooks onto the back.  A really cool looking figure, I have to say.

More pics of upcoming items at – Lamprey and COBRA Stinger continues to be a great source of pictures for upcoming items, this time giving us some nice looks at the upcoming Defense of COBRA Island Lamprey, and the new Stinger that’s on the way.  Check out the Lamprey thread here and the Stinger here, or just peruse all the pics mirrored below.
