No, you didn’t accidentally hit the wrong toy website this morning, I really am talking about a Transformers book.
Why? Well, first and foremost the authors Jim Sorenson and Bill Forster have also worked quite a bit in the G.I. Joe realm with the Field Manual books, and I consider Jim a good friend, so I’m happy to send some traffic his way.
But this is a bit self serving, too… I think we’ve all been clamoring for a package art book for G.I. Joe for a long time, and while much of that art may have unfortunately been lost to the sands of time, I think strong sales for a book like this on the Transformers side might convince some folks that more G.I. Joe artwork themed books would be in demand as well.
So, check out their book, consider buying it…after all, even for Joe fans, you can’t argue the cultural and historical significance of some of the art in this book and it would make a fantastic conversation piece. Click the banner below to buy it up.
Much to many folks’ surprise, Jim Sorenson’s G.I. Joe: Field Manual (Volume 2) hit Amazon this week and has shipped to many folks already. Jim reached out to us, and we were able to get him on the What’s on Joe Mind podcast last night, so expect another great conversation with Mr. Sorenson to emerge on the Internet very soon!
During our conversation, Jim mentioned several outtakes that didn’t quite make the cut for the second volume, including twisted Mike Irizarry’s favorite… “sick kids”. Yes, for some reason Mike gets a level of joy out of sick kids. True to his word, Jim went to his blog this morning and immediately posted some outtakes from volume two, including the now infamous “sick kids”. He provides some excellent background to the outtake, and some great information about Volume 2 as well.
While you’re reading the blog, you should seriously consider hitting up Amazon and picking up the second volume of the G.I. Joe: Field Manual. There’s tons of Season Two artwork as well as a ton of stuff from the DiC series. That’s right, you get to marvel at the designs of awesome and obscure 90’s G.I. Joe characters without having to actually watch the cartoon. It’s the best of all worlds! Click the banner below to buy Volume Two, and make sure you continue hitting up Disciples of Boltax for information about this book and others.
Any episode that features Chuck and Kevin talking about tasteful nudity is bound to be a legendary one, and this episode delivers. The guys talk to Jim Sorenson, author of the fantastic G.I. Joe Field Manual, and then proceed to put him through a miserable 2 hours of off topic rambling, Gangnam Style free-style rapping, and yes, tasteful nudity.
Jim took it like a champ, and the episode ends up running the gamut, talking about the New Jersey Collectors Convention, Kevin’s excellent Metalhead figure, as well as the G.I. Joe Field Manual and the latest and greatest G.I. Joe news.

This past weekend over the pond in Southampton, UK, Gary from What’s on Joe Mind and James “KuuKuuSon” Kavanaugh, Jr. are attending the UK G.I. Joe/Transformers convention Roll Out Roll Call 3!
And if you think they’re flying all the way over there without posting a couple special editions, you don’t know them very well. Fresh from the floor of Roll Out Roll Call, you can listen to these special editions below:
In this recap, we get some fresh audio from Jim Sorenson and Bill Forestor about their upcoming G.I. Joe art book, and also get to hear some great Larry Hama audio, desconstructing Issue #21. Then the guys are on the plane and on their way home!
Some fresh G.I. Joe podcast audio…a great way to start a Monday!
And it’s another great one. I posted a short while ago about Jim Sorenson’s upcoming book focused on the art of the Sunbow G.I. Joe animated series…well, the JDSO podcast wasted no time in actually getting him on the show to talk about it. We now know this book will be called “The Field Manual”, and should provide some interesting behind the scenes information to any Joe fans out there.
Best part of the interview is the idea that if this book does well, there’s a good potential for future books to come, from the Resolute or Renegades universe. How cool would that be?
For all of the latest and greatest intel on this book or potential future projects, be sure to keep an eye on Jim Sorenson’s blog.
It’s a great interview, and you also get the same level of G.I. Joe news and information that you’ve come to expect. Check out the JDSO Podbean Page, or hit up the embedded player below to listen.
