SKAR has a new operative – GIJCC Steel Raven revealed!

Now this is cool.

I loved G.I. Joe: Extreme conceptually, but the figures released in the mid 90s were not up to par with the earlier efforts.  Victims of the 1990s style of toy design, with dramatic sculpted poses and super hero proportions the Extreme figures weren’t necessarily bad for what they were, they just in no way dove-tailed with what had existed in the Real American Hero leading up to that point.

Considering the Kindle Worlds project I’m currently working on, I’m ecstatic to see some movement towards further integration of SKAR into G.I. Joe mythology, and Steel Raven is a great next step after the Iron Klaw we received a few years back.  My hope is that perhaps these are the first few steps towards an expanded SKAR in a convention set, maybe?  Time will tell.

Regardless, this figure looks really fun, and any time we get a character that has never been in toy form before it’s something to celebrate.  Check it out on GIJoeClub.com or mirrored below.

The bad news?  Only one reveal left…well unless you count a revamped Salvo…  can’t wait to see the next entry tomorrow!

Fan wishes get answered! GIJCC reveals Subscription IRON KLAW!

Aw hells yeah!!

It started earlier this morning when the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club Tweeted about a reveal today for a character that first debuted 25 years ago.  But as sometimes happens, plans changed, and they mentioned needing to “Iron out” some details.

Well, that was about all the encouragement I needed as I kept reloading my Twitter client and GIJoeClub.com every 12 seconds until he was finally revealed.  The one, the only… Iron Klaw.

Back in ’95 Iron Klaw was the evil mastermind of the G.I. Joe Extreme universe, with a very cool design aesthetic.  For whatever complaints folks have about the toys, the cartoon universe of G.I. Joe: Extreme was fascinating, and Iron Klaw was a big part of why.

For this reason, the fans were thrilled when it looked like we might get a comic pack featuring this evil terrorist (although redubbed as a Cobra “Iron Klaw Trooper”).  However, as often happens to the G.I. Joe fandom, our hopes were crushed as the movie line took over, and subsequent Anniversary or Resolute styled comic packs vanished into the ether.

But along comes the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club to the rescue, digging the tooling for Iron Klaw out of Hasbro’s vaults and finally giving the fans what they’ve been asking for over the past two years.  Can I say they’ve done a fantastic job on it, too?  This is one great looking figure, and whether you want to use it as a new Cobra “Iron Klaw Trooper”, or as the malicious Iron Klaw himself, this guy works both ways.  I love the detailed weathering on the mask, the new webgear…man, it’s all awesome!  Great work.

Kudos, GIJCC, and I think this figure will be just the first step in convincing many folks to sign up for the Sub.  For more details on the subscription service, check out GIJoeClub.com. Can’t wait to see more!

Unreleased Comic Pack test shots continue to emerge

Mere days after the unreleased Training Snake Eyes was shown on JoeIntel, test shot maestro Gyre-Viper at HissTank.com has shown some pictures of the unreleased “Iron Klaw Trooper” that was initially slated to come with another wave of Comic Packs before the line shifted to a movie theme.  Check out the mirrored images below.

This…  is awesome.  From what I’ve seen there hasn’t been much unreleased stuff that has really made me sad that it won’t make it to retail.  Resolute stuff aside of course (which looks to be coming in a boxed set in 2010).  But this Iron Klaw Trooper?  Damn, man.  I love it.   I was a big fan of the Extreme universe, but the figures were horrible, it’s freaking great to see those characters worked into the Anniversary line, even with just a new head, beret, weapon, and webgear.  The base figure looks to be an Iron Grenadier Destro.  Regardless of all this, the figure is very cool, and I hope Hasbro finds some way to work this tooling into the Pursuit of COBRA line.  I really love the face sculpt and skull-themed webgear.  Very cool figure.

He also showcased some images from the upcoming Pursuit of COBRA Arctic Destro, which is another pretty neat one.  Those ice-cased accessories are pretty cool and the sculpt is great.  Check out those images below.
