New logo for the G.I. Joe Sequel revealed?

So, I’ve made a regular practice of combing through some casting sites looking for possible news tidbits about the upcoming film, and I may have stumbled upon the new logo for the upcoming G.I. Joe Sequel.

There isn’t really anything saying it’s official, but it looks pretty official, and it looks a bit different than stuff we’ve seen before (I believe).

RZA talks to the MTV Movie Blog about G.I. Joe Sequel

Somewhat more newsworthy than Channing Tatum going Mr. Clean, hip hop star and movie producer RZA spoke with MTV about the prospect of filming the sequel to G.I. Joe.  Of course as these actors are wont to do, he expressed his undying love for G.I. Joe and claims to have been a long time G.I. Joe fan.

I never really buy that spin when the stars talk about these films, but hey, what the heck.  Look there’s video!

Apparently Channing Tatum’s hair is news… and Sienna Miller– wait, what?

Yeah, really.  I was a bit surprised myself.

Doing my normal Google crawl today, and came across at least a dozen different “news sites” reporting that Channing Tatum had shaved his head, reportedly for the G.I. Joe movie.  Duke without blonde hair?!?  DETH of teh lien!!!11one!

If you can stand it (I can’t) check out Perez Hilton.  Good lord, do people visit that site on a regular basis?  Ugh.

Interestingly, the source article at the Daily Mail also mentions a little tidbit about Sienna Miller also starring in the sequel.  Yeah, I’m calling BS on that one.  Based on other stuff I read in the article (specifically about The Rock playing a character named “BEAST”) I’m convinced these folks have absolutely no clue what they’re talking about.

Until I see it elsewhere, no Sienna Miller is not going to be in this movie.

G.I. Joe sequel is looking for a few good rodents?

Well, one rodent, anyway.  Apparently, according to Hollywood Insider, the G.I. Joe Sequel is on the hunt for a young up and comer to play “Mouse”, a new character for the film.  Take this with a grain of salt, I suppose, but according to the site, Mouse is a central character to the film and is described as a “teen hunk”.

Umm…  wha?

Don’t get me wrong, I am fully on board with the film, and I’ve loved pretty much every casting decision I’ve heard to this point, but I’m really not sure what’s up with this.  There is a character named “Mouse” in G.I. Joe lore, he was with Sgt. Savage and the Screaming Eagles, but he’s hardly a “central character” and if they are really and truly casting someone just to entice young girls to see the movie, I really have no idea what to expect with this.  The code name of “Mouse” from Sgt. Savage was an ironic one, as the character was fairly large and muscle bound, but that does not sound like the case here.

You can see a (short) profile on JMM’s Comic Page.

As I said, I’ve been on board to this point, and I’m going to stay on board, I just really hope at least some of this news is incorrect.  I see no reason to create a “central character” and make them an 18 year old heart throb just to appeal to a young girl demographic to come see an action movie.  Can’t there be a better way to help ticket sales than that?

We’ll see…

While waiting for verification of this info, see Mouse in somewhat limited fashion in the Sgt. Savage and the Screaming Eagles cartoon episode:

That’s a lotta muscle right there.

G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes about to have some bad luck?

It would certainly appear that way…  after all, according to Heat Vision they now have a Jinx!

Okay.  That was terrible.  I apologize.

According to the aforementioned article, French actress Elodie Yung is in talks to join Channing Tatum, Ray Park, and possibly Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes sequel.  The article specifically mentions Jinx as the role she is in talks for.  Quite an interesting and eclectic group so far.  If we can believe the rumors, that gives us Duke, Roadblock, Snake Eyes and Jinx going up against a so far unknown (besides Storm Shadow) crew of Snake-themed baddies.  It is also unknown just how directly this will tie in with the original film and how much they’re going to depend on those events to move the story forward.  Ms. Yung has a little history already as a martial arts warrior, appearing in District 13: Ultimatum as a female assassin who likes to attack people with knives in her ponytail.  She appears somewhat briefly in the trailer for that film that can be viewed below:

And she makes an even larger appearence in the below movie clip:

While I love the casting news, I am much more intrigued at what we’re going to hear on the Cobra side of things.  Since the film makers seem somewhat determined to move on and away from many of the original characters, how are they going to handle Cobra Commander, Destro, or The Baroness, who are all so critical and central to the cast of evil characters?

I suppose with ole Chrome Dome and Destro, since they’re heavily masked, they could easily be swapped out with other actors, but seeing as how The Baroness played such a key role in the entire first film, her fate remains very interesting to me.  Time will tell.  I’m really starting to look forward to covering this over the next fourteen months.

Thanks to dorian247 from for coming across this intel.

G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes may strike even earlier

We’ve been long hearing that the inevitable G.I. Joe sequel, G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes would launch in August, 2012…but it would seem that it might hit Hollywood even sooner.

TG Daly reports that Paramounts big budget sequel to the 2009 smash Star Trek reboot has been delayed due to JJ Abrams scheduling conflicts, and the successor has already been named: G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.  The article specifies that the Joe sequel may not air on the exact same weekend as Star Trek 2 was going to initially, but chances are good Paramount will lift it up to an earlier release date in the summer.  Star Trek’s original release date was set for June 29th.

Sounds like things are getting rolling!  Looking forward to another roller coaster ride.

Rumor Alert – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to play Roadblock in G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes?

Well, he’s got some name and some star power, but certainly isn’t making the sequel seem any more credible from an artistic sense.  Of course, I suppose anyone who thinks a sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is going to have artistic sense will be in for an ultimate disappointment next summer anyway.

Both Variety and Deadline Hollywood (who likely got the news from the same place) are reporting that not only is Dqyane Johnson in talks to be in the film, but he’s very likely to be playing heavy machine gunner and gourmet chef Roadblock.  Although Heavy Duty had been the Joe’s requisite heavy machine gunner throughout the first part of the 21st Century, over the past few years with Resolute and Renegades, Roadblock has taken his place back amongst central G.I. Joe characters, which certainly pleases a lot of fans out there.

While he certainly is no Terry Crews (sorry Brian Truitt…) he does lend some star power and muscle behind the sequel.  It will be interesting to see if this comes about.

Big thanks to snakeeyes566 of for spotting this nugget.

G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes is looking for a young Asian… and really, who isn’t?

Okay, now I’m a little ticked off.  I had this great headline the minute I saw the news report about a potential casting call for talent for G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.  Turns out, it is most likely a scam.

Ah, well…I bet that headline still got your attention didn’t it?

For the record, if this casting call was legit, I don’t necessarily think it points towards Jinx as much as perhaps just someone tied into the Arashikage legacy.  We know Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes will be a big part of the sequel, and their backstory will be explored.  It would be possible to see Jinx introduced either as a part of their history, or a part of the current G.I. Joe team.  Expect much more groundless hypothesis by yours truly as things move on towards August, 2012.

Thanks to The Terror Drome for the intel, and thanks to Hiss Commander over there with his due diligence in uncovering a possible scam.

Cobra “Strikes” the G.I. Joe Sequel in Louisiana this summer

Well, shall we consider this the official kick off?  New Orleans news website, is reporting that “G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes” will be filming in Louisiana later this summer.  Long time friend of GeneralsJoes (and Louisiana native) David also confirms this information in a Facebook post:

“Paramount’s feature film G.I. Joe II: Cobra Strikes starring Channing Tatum and Ray Park will shoot August 1st through November 21st in Baton Rouge. More information will become available as this production develops.”

Sounds like the roller coaster ride is ready to begin again.  And again I push forward with cautious optimism that will most likely be overtaken by rampant fanboyism as production continues.

Hey, at least I’m honest.

Thanks to David and to The Terror Drome for the info!
