SPOILER ALERT – Is there a connection between G.I. Joe: Retaliation and… Sigma 6?

Some folks may consider this a spoiler, so I will preface this by saying continue reading if you want.  I don’t think it’s a significant spoiler, but it concerns the character of Firefly in the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film.  A recent issue of Total Film magazine featured an article on G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  They spoke with Jon Chu, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Ray Stevenson.  Comic Book Movie was kind enough to get this information out there and posted on their site.

GeneralsJoes Reviews G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 Firefly

Continuing on the G.I. Joe: Retaliation review marathon, today I finish up my Wave 2 reviews with none other than the Cobra Saboteur, Firefly!  The only Firefly figure being released complete with Ray Stevenson’s noggin, he also comes complete with a florescent green jacket and semi-transparent arms!  Considering how much I love my 90’s Joes, this was a bonus, not a detraction.  ;)

It’s been a little while since we heard word about the G.I. Joe: Initiate fan film, but that’s only because they have been very busy filming it!  In fact, over on the G.I. Joe: Initiate Facebook page they have proven this fact by posting a ton of behind the scenes images of the filming, with some very cool looking characters!

I’ve mirrored just a couple of the images below.  Check out their Facebook page here for a ton more photos, and also stay tuned to GIJoeInitiate.com for the latest updates, here’s hoping we see something online soon!

G.I. Joe Convention Day 3 – the 2013 Product Slideshow!

I’m between seminars at the moment, but wanted to at least get the slideshow images posted from the 2013 Product demonstration.  Many of these items will be in the display and I will get those images posted throughout the day as well, but wanted to get this AWESOME stuff up first.  Highlights:

  • Micro Force Quarter-Sized collectible figures in blind bags.  Over 80 figures to collect and trade.  Foot holes are compatible with normal vehicle foot pegs for display!
  • Alpha sized Night Landing vehicle with Cobra Eel.  Cobra Eel figure is the canceled Rise of Cobra Ripcord which is extremely detailed, highly accessorized and uses the figure design that was sculpted to resemble the Sigma 6 Sigma Suits
  • Night Viper is moved up to Wave 3
  • Very movie accurate “Ultimate Firefly” with mini-HISS in Wave 3
  • Very movie accurate “Cobra Trooper” (Cobra Combat Ninja) in Wave 3
  • Movie accurate “Ultimate Duke” (with Data-Viper Predator Drone) in Wave 3
  • Comic accurate/toy accurate Snake Eyes ’85 w/ Timber totally newly tooled in Wave 4
  • Crimson Guard in Wave 5 with customizable label sheet

More details as they emerge!  Follow me on Twitter for up-to-the-minute Tweets and posts from the SyFy panel and the GIJCC panel later today.

New in hand images of G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 at AC Toys

Call me crazy but I actually really love the play feature of that Wave 2 Firefly.  Yes, it looks like it results in some reduced arm/wrist articulation, but the light up forearms and the long motorized sled are actually pretty damn cool, I think.  At some point we have to think about the children!

Over on ACToys.com Small Evil has posted a wealth of G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 images including Roadblock, Snake Eyes, Flint, Storm Shadow, and the aforementioned Firefly.  Check out Roadblock and carded images here, and the Firefly images here, and I’ve also mirrored the images below.

Thanks to HissTank.com for the info.

First images of G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 3-Packs revealed

EDIT – Some of my part breakdowns were horrifically inaccurate.  They have been adjusted to reflect more accurate source material!  I apologize.

Invariably when plans change and retail offerings don’t pan out as expected, some items generally hit the production chain and end up in the after market stream in Asia.  It happened a few years ago with the first run of Pursuit of Cobra figures, and it is happening now with G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Occasionally, these after market samples will be the first time we get a glimpse at some of these figures, as is the case here with viperkingdom.  While folks who went to Toy Fair got a brief and fuzzy glimpse of the second wave of G.I. Joe: Retaliation 3-Packs, this is the first real up close and quality series of images, and I gotta say, these look to be right up there with the impressive first run.  More new characters, some great parts choices and some interesting character tweaks.  Check out the mirrored images below, and I’ll do some parts breakdowns as well.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation “Tactical Ninja Team”

  • Sgt. Airborne (Previously cancelled Data Viper body, cancelled 30th anniversary Law alternate head, Renegades Ripcord helmet and Para-Viper webgear)
  • Agent Mouse (looks like a  new head and vest, the cancelled 30th Anniversary Lifeline alternate helmet with G.I. Joe Trooper body with some different arms)
  • Night Ops Snake Eyes (PoC Snake Eyes body, cancelled Jungle Strike Storm Shadow webgear)

G.I. Joe: Retaliation “Cobra Invasion”

  • Firefly (New head, torso, and webgear with 30th Anniversary Lifeline arms and legs)
  • Cobra Para Trooper (Shock-Trooper in red with Retaliation Cobra Trooper parachute pack)
  • Storm Shadow (mostly a Rise of Cobra Storm Shadow) repaint

I know many folks are likely going to complain about more repaints and rehashes, but holy crap I think these two sets look pretty amazing.  Airborne is fantastic and it will be really awesome to get that Data-Viper figure in hand finally.  I love the G.I. Joe Trooper, and since Mouse pretty much IS a G.I. Joe Trooper it makes sense for this figure to be built off that.  Not really sure about that bright vest, but…  Snake Eyes has the perfect base figure, and I am loving the fact that they are finally using that cancelled PoC Storm Shadow webgear!  I have to admit, though, the colors of the webgear and the base figure clash big time.  The straps are just a bit too bright for the sheer black underneath.

Firefly looks astoundingly cool.  A great modern update to the original, with a great use of PoC/30th Anniversary parts.  The Para Trooper is probably my least favorite.  I really like the Shock Trooper, but that torso looks really plain even with the parachute pack on top.  Too much blank area.  Storm Shadow is okay, and looks like a more movie-accurate version compared to the Wave 1, but overall, I much prefer the futuristic and sleek look of the first version in Retaliation.

All in all some very cool pieces, especially for being more or less kit bashed together.  If these end up being $20 for three figures like Wave 1 is, that is a freaking bargain, especially because these look to have more new characters and new imaginings than Wave 1 did.  Good stuff.

Thanks much to Kenny2274 on Twitter for the heads up!

Cobra Special Forces Facebook page shows Firefly image from G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Gotta love social media.  This whole G.I. Joe: Retaliation phenomenon exploded when both Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jon M. Chu began their Twitter campaigns during the film’s production.

Well, now that filming is mostly wrapped, we have the Cobra Special Forces Facebook page, designed as a social media recruitment tool of sorts, revealing some very cool images from the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film.  To this point it’s been pictures of the Cobra Troopers…but today, we get Firefly!  An awesome image of the Cobra saboteur from what looks like a scene after he blows up the building with the Cobra motorcycle.  Check out the image below, and make sure you’re dialed into Cobra Special Forces on Facebook as well!
