Yesterday we started off with Budo and Kwinn, and the G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 3.5 reviews continue full steam ahead with the Crimson Guard! While I like the Crimson Guard quite a bit, I have a very well defined purpose in my head for them, and I wasn’t sure this new figure would fit that purpose.
You know what, though? It ended up working much better than I thought it might. Check out the review on my G.I. Joe: Retaliation Review Page or the direct link below.
That’s right, G.I. Joe fans, G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 3.5 (AKA the SUPAH WAVE) is right around the corner, and some folks have already scored figures from the assortment. The pre-production master Glumby as accumulated a nice assortment of early sample figures and posted some images over on JoeDeClassified.com.
First early looks are of the Crimson Guard as well as Budo and Cobra Commander. Many of these images show these figures in never-seen before in hand formats, including Cobra Commander with his hood and a great look at his FANG helicopter themed backpack.
Huge thanks to Glumby for getting these images out there. Check out JoeDeClassified here and here, and I’ve also mirrored some of the images below.

I know there has been an obvious G.I. Joe vacuum at retail, but don’t forget…all is not lost in G.I. Joe toy land. Those great folks over at Sideshow Collectibles still have tons of G.I. Joe products in stock and ready to ship!
Over the past couple of weeks, Mysterious Stranger has been inundating my mailbox with guest reviews for Sideshow Collectibles products, but I haven’t had a chance to get them all posted yet. Figured now was as good a time as any to have a “Sideshow Collectibles Review Week”.
With the 12″ Crimson Guard hitting mailboxes just last week, I figured he was a good figure to start this week off with.
I cannot thank Mysterious Stranger enough for the time he’s taken with all of these images and reviews. It’s not a quick and easy task, so thanks to him for putting all of this work in. Be sure to stay glued to my Sideshow Collectibles review section, or hit the direct links as they come up:
Believe it or not, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. As cool as the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation Crimson Guard and Night-Viper are…and as neat as it is that they were once rumored to be 30th Anniversary figures, the JDSO crew dives into many more mysteries, both modern and vintage!
Patrick “notpicard” Stewart reviews the G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures, they talk about the awesome ARBCO Playset, and solve the long-standing mystery of what the hell is on Low Light’s leg??!
Of course any episode of JDSO is always complimented by some awesome images, so be sure to check out the thread on JoeDeClassified to soak in all of these great pictures. I’ve mirrored a a handful of them below, but you need to check out DeClass to see the rest. Some great, GREAT stuff.
Gyre Viper and his excellent crew of cast mates have finished and posted the latest episode of the JoeDeclassified Spec Ops (JDSO) Podcast! In this episode, they bite deep into the canceled Nano BAT, Iron Klaw, and even touch on the canceled Crimson Guard figure that was slated to come in the same comic pack as Iron Klaw.
Perhaps the coolest thing about this episode are the accompanied images, which have all been posted over at JoeDeclassified.com. These images show some incredibly awesome detail from the unreleased Iron Klaw, Nano BAT, and Crimson Guard.
Keep in mind, these are not the FSS figures, these samples were canceled figures initially slated to appear in the G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary line (Iron Klaw vs. Crimson Guard Trooper Comic Pack) and the Rise of Cobra line (Nano BAT). The insight in this episode is awesome.
Check it out at JDSO’s Podbean page, and please also check out the accompanying images on JoeDeclassified.com. Some really awesome stuff here. Kudos to these guys for such a great show. Hopefully I’ll be joining them on it soon!
We all heard plenty about Kwinn and this “mystery” wave that he was slated to be a part of at the tail end of the 30th Anniversary line. Well, with thanks to Viper Commando from HissTank.com we now have a bit more information about this mystery wave that unfortunately never came to be.
He reports that while digging into the Wal-Mart computer system for 30th Anniversary inventory, he stumbled upon the following series of figures:
He hypothosizes that perhaps this was a final wave of 30th Anniversary figures, and it certainly seems to fit that theme. And of course, the revelation of this series of figures is causing folks to proclaim that this would have been the best wave evah!!1 but such is the nature of fandom at large.
What I find most interesting is with all of the complaints I’ve seen online about the Crimson Guard and Night Viper, folks are absolutely positive that this wave would have been amazing…we’ve obviously seen Kwinn and we know what to expect there. Data-Viper as well. So really the only unknown here is “Modern Flint”. I would have absolutely loved to have seen a Modern Flint in the 30th Anniversary/Pursuit of Cobra style, but considering he’s a main character in Retaliation, I’m sure we may see a similar theme down the road.
Word from Hasbro is still that we will get Kwinn out there somehow, some way, so here’s hoping that the bulk of this wave will see the light of day. Certainly interesting to see this come to pass, and thanks to Viper Commander for the info.
The awesome SpecOps Podcast has just kicked off, and is already making some serious waves. The first episode slammed the fandom with the unproduced Cobra Island playset and some fantastic concept art behind it, and Episode 2 certainly is not letting up.
With a very well informed and opinionated crew, they tackle the whole Toy Fair 2012 fall out and discuss the controversy over articulation and the direction of the toyline. But that’s not all! Fresh from a stint in Afghanistan, JoeDeClassified owner Sam “Nomad” Damon stops by and drops some knowledge on us about the Wave 5 Night Viper and Crimson Guard!
