Don’t have G.I. Joe: Retaliation yet? Take advantage of this deal from Amazon!

I would think most diehard G.I. Joe fans would own G.I. Joe: Retaliation on Blu-Ray at this point, but if you don’t have it, now is your chance.

Amazon.com has the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack for EIGHT BUCKS.  Yep, just $7.99.  Hit the banner below and go get it!

The time is almost upon us… G.I. Joe: Retaliation is incoming on Blu-Ray/DVD!

Can you believe it?

How is this possible?  When the film was delayed for 9 months it felt like the end of the G.I. Joe fandom at large…but instead the film rebounded strongly and ended up grossing nearly $400 million worldwide.

Now we stand on the precipice of the home release, and any one of us will be able to watch G.I. Joe: Retaliation any time we want.  But that’s not all.  For folks who are interested in such a thing, the Best Buy exclusive “Extended Action Cut” will feature nearly 13 minutes of additional footage, giving many G.I. Joe fans the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film they were expecting in theaters.

One might think that 13 minutes of a 90 minute film really doesn’t make much of a difference.  I respectfully disagree.  I think most folks will find that the additional footage spent on sequences building up the major plot points of the film really help the film feel more cohesive.

Yes, G.I. Joe fans, the film hits all of your local stores tomorrow.  Are you excited?

Expect some interesting reflections and commentary once the film hits, as I dive head first into the Extended Action Cut and give my opinions on the changes and what the end result means for us and for the upcoming sequel.

I couldn’t be more excited!  Bring it on.

Meanwhile, make sure you check out the DVD/Blu-Ray Buyer’s Guide to figure out which version you’re picking up tomorrow.  Or in my case, which versionS.  Also, check out the review of the Blu-Ray theatrical cut with all special features right here on GeneralsJoes.

Some peeks into the behind the scenes featurettes from G.I. Joe: Retaliation

As we get closer to the retail release for G.I. Joe: Retaliation (less than a week to go!) more behind the scenes clips are emerging that showcase some of the extra features that are on the Blu-Ray. Keep in mind that these video clips are just excerpts from the special features and there are several more minutes of great stuff on the Blu-Ray itself.

You can see my review of the Blu-Ray right here.

Over on Crave Online, they look at some of the martial arts training that Ray Park and others had to go through in preparation for the movie.

Meanwhile, USA Today has posted a very cool look at the Ninja Mountain battle with some great behind the scenes commentary from director Jon Chu.

These are both some excellent features, giving a great perspective to the development of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and just a small part of the awesome Blu-Ray offering of the film. Check ’em out…I’ve also embedded them below.

GeneralsJoes Reviews G.I. Joe: Retaliation Blu-Ray Release!

I was a lucky recipient of a screener copy of the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation Blu-Ray release, and took the opportunity to review it.  I know the “Extended Action Cut” has been getting the bulk of the attention (as it deserves) but I do believe there are still things to enjoy and appreciate about the mass retail release as well.

It is the theatrical cut, so the additional footage from the Extended Action Cut is not included…this is the movie we all saw in theaters.  But what makes this release special is all of the bonus content.  With three deleted scenes (that are different than the additional footage from the Extended Cut) and over an hour’s worth of behind the scene features, there is a ton of entertainment crammed into this small package.

Check out the review in my G.I. Joe: Retaliation section, or directly via the link below:

PARAMOUNT HOME ENTERTAINMENT G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

Will we be getting a G.I. Joe: Retaliation “Extended Cut” after all?

One of the chief complaints coming after pre-orders were listed for the G.I. Joe: Retaliation DVD and Blu-Ray was that while deleted scenes were listed as part of the special features, there was no real indication of a “Director’s Cut”.

Well, an astute GeneralsJoes reader from Germany noticed an interesting entry on Amazon’s German site:

It’s listed with a running time of 123 minutes (where the theatrical release clocked in at 110).

Currently I cannot find evidence of this anywhere on the American Amazon.com site, but I’m crossing my fingers that something will show up soon.  Thanks very much to GeneralsJoes reader Kai for this interesting tidbit!

More details about G.I. Joe: Retaliation Blu-Ray – July 30th release date confirmed

Even though Paramount only officially announced the DVD/Blu-Ray release yesterday, already more information has become available from folks at HissTank.com.

Flint Fairborne doesn’t state where the information comes from, but he has posted an image of a Blu-Ray “One Sheet” detailing the release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation on Blu-Ray.  Release date appears to be set for July 30th:

Also of note from the one sheet is that there will be over an hour of extra content on the Blu-Ray, including an Eight Part behind the scenes look at the production and “Deleted Scenes”!  This is sort of a mixed blessing, in my mind.  While deleted scenes are nice so we can see some of the stuff that was cut from the film, I’d much rather see a full directors’ cut, so that missing footage could also be included within the context of the film itself.  Perhaps one is planned for later down the road, based on reaction to the initial release.  It should be noted that this looks to be a specific pre-order solicitation from an unknown source, which also includes customized dog tags if you pre-order by June 18th.

Something tells me DVD/Blu-Ray sales for Retaliation are going to be very strong.

Also, details were revealed about a G.I. Joe: Retaliation Steelbook release available on Amazon’s German website.  These Steelbook’s are not typically released as is in the United States, but according to HissTank poster Ford, Paramount Steelbook releases are region free.  The cover is based on the awesome Regal Cinema’s exclusive promotional poster first revealed here on GeneralsJoes.

Check out those images below, and the pre-order link is here.
