Marvel Studios news catch up extraveganza!

So while JoeCon was happening in Springfield last week, Marvel Studios was busy unleashing great new stuff upon the geek world.

As we all should know by now, Daredevil hit Netflix on Friday, and while I’ve only managed to catch two episodes so far, Marvel was kind enough to post the official red uniform! Check out the mirrored images below.

I am in full fledged GEEK OUT mode about this costume.  It retains the great red style of the comic, with just the right amount of cinematic updates.  I could see this guy co-existing in an Avengers universe.

Along with this,a series of clips from Avengers: Age of Ultron have been released as well, systematically blowing my mind.

Lastly, a brand spanking new Ant Man trailer was launched, and it’s about 175% better than the last one. Shrinking action, running with ants and Yellowjacket! This film just leaped up in my “must see” list. Great stuff.

I mean, seriously… can you believe this? Daredevil, Avengers, and Ant Man movie/TV news all in one weekend? What crazy world is this? It’s AwesomeWorld, that’s what.

As I recover from JoeCon, my non-G.I. Joe news will get gradually worked back in, but I’m still wanting to focus a lot of attention on the G.I. Joe side, since there’s still a lot to talk about there.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Supercut trailer

We’ve seen three full trailers released for Avengers: Age of Ultron, and because Internet, some enterprising soul took all three trailers and smashed them all together, then attempted to arrange them in some sort of chronological order.  Of course none of us has any idea if this truly is the right chronological order, but hey, five full minutes of Age of Ultron, gooooo!

Props to ComicBook.com for digging this out.

Hot Toys Hulkbuster Iron Man…

…for the guy who just has to own a figure the same price as a month’s rent.

…hey, I didn’t say it wasn’t worth it.

Check out the Pre-Order at Sideshow Collectibles, and buy what’s sure to be a certain conversation piece for any respectable dinner party.  Hell, you might even be able to wear its pants.

Hot Toys Captain America up for Pre-Order on Sideshow Collectibles!

Okay, I know I usually stick to the G.I. Joe side of the house, but I am absolutely in love with these Hot Toys Avengers figures, and I figure other Joe fans might be, too.  Pre-Orders just went live for Captain America!

Early Toy Fair peek shows relative size of SHIELD Helicarrier

No this isn’t G.I. Joe specific news, but I know a lot of Joe fans are keeping a close eye on the Avengers toys and the SHIELD Helicarrier specifically, hoping for a little insight about the size and format of this playset vehicle.

Over on Twitter Hasbro’s PR secret agents have posted a neat image of the showroom floor in the set up process, and you get a pretty good look the Helicarrier and the size of the thing.  Figures still look a bit oversized on it, but I think it has some amazing potential with some creative photo taking and imagination.

Online reveals of Avengers toys provide potential custom fodder, fandom panic

Yes, panic is a strong word.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen any real panic from anyone yet, but I do think what we’re seeing already from some Avengers toys being shown on Toys “R” Us Canada’s website might be something we want to keep in mind as we prepare mentally for Toy Fair in a couple of weeks.  I will admit, I did panic a little bit myself, mostly over articulation concerns, but in all honesty, I don’t think we have much to worry about with the mainline G.I. Joe releases.

As for the product itself, the first thing is the appearance of a clear image of the Avengers Quinjet:

Originally there was some hypothesis that maybe the Quinjet was retooled from the canceled Sigma 6 Thunderhawk and Rise of Cobra Phantom X90, but upon closer inspection that’s not the case.  The surface is completely different, and while there are some structural simularities, I think the vehicles themselves are different molds.  If you look at the cockpit area, the surface is much smoother on the Quinjet without the vents near the rear, and the wing assembly looks like it’s all one piece, and not modular like on the other planes.

Regardless of the construction, the Quinjet looks pretty neat, and could make for some potentially cool custom fodder.

Next up, is this weird Ground Assault Vehicle:

This thing is actually pretty darn cool, design-wise, as long as it’s larger than the picture indicates (I think it probably is).  If it’s close in size to the RHINO or even a bit smaller, it could make for a pretty awesome Cobra vehicle, with some fresh paint applications.

Another potential source of cool custom fodder is revealed with the appearance of Captain America:

Yes, the figure looks great, the webgear looks awesome…but…  where’s the articulation?  We’ve got single-joint knees and no torso joints whatsoever.  Curious…  I know some folks were wondering about this last week when Marvel leaked a few early images of the Avengers figures, but now seeing a finished model looking the same way is a concern.  Granted, if your only worried about the accessories, this isn’t a big deal, but it is somewhat disappointing, especially considering it won’t necessarily match aesthetically with the rest of the Marvel movie figures that have been revealed so far.

Granted, Marvel figures aren’t necessarily known by their extensive articulation, but still…  I have an Ultimate Captain America, Iron Man, and Nick Fury all in this format already, it is kind of too bad the Thor and potential Hawkeye figures won’t match it.

So even beyond folks being excited for G.I. Joe toys in 2012, the potential is there for some awesome customizing above and beyond the Retaliation brand.  More info will come in a couple weeks from Toy Fair, and GeneralsJoes will be there as always to cover it!

More Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes coolness

So, is anyone getting tired of me posting information about Avengers?  I hope not, because I’m going to keep doing it.  Feel free to skip by if you’re not interested.  I’m extremely fired up to see this cartoon, so I fully intend on posting about the videos as they’re uploaded.

The latest five-minute short focuses on The Hulk…  DisneyXD.com is the first place to post it (which doesn’t allow embedding for some weird reason).  It’s on the same video page that the Iron Man one was posted yesterday.

Along with that, Marvel.com has also begun posting their own content, including very short snippets of the origins of the Avengers.  First two are Thor and Captain America.

Captain America

Along with those, Marvel.com also has hosted the Iron Man Micro-Episode, so it’s embeddable now!

Iron Man Micro-Episode

This cartoon really looks great.  It has a very “realistic” feel to it.  Sure, the animated style is the typical distorted look, but the dialog is very mature and natural, the action is very well choreographed…it really rocks.  October 20th…I’ve marked my calendar!

No it’s not G.I. Joe news, but it’s still awesome – Avengers animated shorts online!

For a while now I’ve been talking up the apparent wonders of the upcoming Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series.  Although I’ve never been a huge Avengers comic fan, I love Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, and a lot of the Avenger individuals.  This cartoon promises a large cast of favorite characters and looks like an awesome ramped up action series in the vein of Justice League.

While the series itself debuts October 20th on DisneyXD, starting TODAY, DisneyXD.com and Marvel.com are debuting some five minute “shorts” with a focus on the individuals.  First up to bat is Iron Man!

LOVE this.  Really love the looks of this.  With G.I. Joe: Renegades and Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, it looks like this could be a great fall for action animation!

Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes still looks pretty boss

Most of my focus on fall animation beginning in October has been on G.I. Joe: Renegades, for obvious reasons.  However, another terrific looking animated series will be debuting on Disney XD nearly right alongside Renegades, starting around October 22nd.

At the recent Fan Expo in Toronto, Marvel was on hand and premiered two episodes from the animated series as well as revealing some interesting information via the Marvel.com Live Blog.  Among announcements is the fact that on September 22nd, Marvel.com will start broadcasting five minute mini-webisodes with a focus on individual heroes and villains appearing in the upcoming series.

As I’ve said numerous times on these pages, I’m a Marvel comics junkie (though I haven’t even touched a comic in nearly 10 years).  I love the characters and the history of the Marvel U, but honestly don’t have the money, the time nor the inclination to keep up to date on the morass of the 21st Century comic world.  And this is exactly why I love the Marvel films and cartoons so much…I can keep up with these great characters without having to try and backtrack 3 years to figure out how they got where they are now.

There was a time when I was a devout comics fan and scoffed at the cartoon versions because they simply didn’t match up from a maturity level or depth level, but it seems like that’s changed.  These days I prefer the simplicity of the animated universe, and the characters seem much more like the iconic versions that I remember, and not like the new “angsty” renditions that have crept into the limelight in recent years.  So, I’m really looking forward to Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.  It looks like a hell of a lot of fun, and like a Justice League International for the Marvel Universe, which is right up my alley.  I’ll be honest, I know very little about the Avengers universe itself.  While I love the characters of Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, etc…  I’ve never been a huge fan of the whole Avengers team.  This cartoon could certainly change that perpsective.

This cool ass new trailer doesn’t hurt at all either:

New Avengers Animated trailer is pretty– HOLY CRAP AWESOME!

I was never a big Avengers fan as a kid…even loving the Marvel Comics and loving Captain America, I much preferred more down to Earth stories over the wild and crazy space-bound cosmic stuff that perpetuated the Avengers universe.  But between now and 2012, something tells me I’m gonna be an Avengers fan.

Really, my dislike for Avengers is kind of irrational.  I’ve always loved Iron Man.  I’ve always loved Cap.  I’ve always loved Hawkeye.  But for some reason put them all together and make a team out of them, and it has done nothing for me.

This, however does something for me.  Something I probably shouldn’t describe here…  anyway, check out these 120 full seconds of awesomeness below.
