Antonio Fuso reveals variant cover for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #214

The May solicitations from IDW Publishing were released a while ago, and while we saw the main cover for A Real American Hero #214, any variant covers were omitted. Well, thanks to Antonio Fuso’s Twitter account, we can now get a look at one of those other variant covers.

Fuso is best known as the artist for the critically acclaimed Cobra and Cobra Files title from IDW Publishing, and I find it fascinating to see his take on the mainstream characters of Snake Eyes and Scarlett.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #214 arrives in May, and features a potentially landscape-altering event in G.I. Joe history. Don’t miss it, and check out the variant cover below.

GeneralsJoes Reviews IDW’s G.I. Joe: Cobra Files #2

I’ve been pretty clear that my favorite ongoing G.I. Joe title at the moment is Larry Hama’s Real American Hero title, mostly because it manages to capture the nearly perfect combination of goofy fantasy and military action from the great 80’s series.

It is for this reason that I continue to be astounded at how much I love Mike Costa’s Cobra (and now the Cobra Files) series.  It’s pretty much the polar opposite of a traditional G.I. Joe book, diving deep into the murky under belly of the current military machine, yet every month I find myself totally captivated by the stories told here.  Even more amazing to me is the fact that Costa uses characters that there are no toys for (Ronin, the IDW Firewall, and to a point, Chameleon) and yet I still love it.  Normally no toys for the characters in the book I’m reading is usually a knock against it.  Not this time, though.

GeneralsJoes Reviews IDW’s The Cobra Files #1

I was hoping to get this review posted yesterday, but just didn’t quite have the time.  New comic day hit Wednesday and with new comic day came the first issue of the next generation of the “Cobra” universe from IDW!  Like The Who says “…meet the new boss… same as the old boss”.

But personally, even if this new iteration is more or less the same, I couldn’t be happier.  Click the Read the Rest of the Review link below for the full review.  BEWARE, SPOILERS for this issue will not be concealed!

A SNAKE IN THEIR MIDST! Her name is CHAMELEON—and she used to be a COBRA agent. Now she’s made her way into the G.I. JOE team—the honest way. But even with the best of intentions, does she have what it takes to fight on the side of the angels? FLINT thinks she does, and he’s willing to gamble the lives of this teammates on her… Unfortunately, with the Crimson Twin called TOMAX pulling the strings, no bet is a sure thing.

Comic Book Resources takes a peek at upcoming Cobra Files from IDW

Coming up Wednesday, we get our first look at G.I. Joe: Special Missions (not to mention issue #2 of the main G.I. Joe title), but as of right now, we are also getting our first glimpse into the mind of Mike Costa as we prepare for The Cobra Files, IDW’s upcoming next iteration of the Cobra title that’s been running for several years.

Continuing the adventures of Flint, Lady Jaye, Chameleon, Ronin, and the whole secret Black Ops division of G.I. Joe, Cobra Files takes the Joe universe in ways that folks might not expect.  And don’t expect any more punches pulled this time around either.

Mike Costa puts out a fantastic interview, and we get a peek at some preview pages as well, including the return of a classic Cobra character!  Check out all the details on Comic Book Resources.

G.I. Joe: Cobra artist Antonio Fuso offering original art for sale

Thanks to artist Antonio Fuso for letting me know that he is currently selling some of his original art (including some of his terrific work on the IDW Cobra title).  This artwork can be viewed on his Tumblr page right here.  Over the past few years, the G.I. Joe: Cobra title has been one of the most unique, engaging, and entertaining comics I’ve read in a very long time, and much of that is due to the atmosphere and vision that Fuso brings to the table with his very unique artistic style.

Check out his Tumblr page for more details and to see if there’s something you like.
