Back when he was first released in Spy Troops Wave 6, I really loved the way Depth Charge looked. He was slim and sleek and nicely sculpted...he looked as a diver should look, with a very simple wet suit design, and had a great, different color scheme.

Other folks seemed to feel the same way, especially the customizers, who now had a nearly blank slate to work with...and one with improved articulation to boot. So, how does this new "Adventure Pack" Depth Charge shape up?

Pretty nicely, actually!

Figure Mold

As with the original figure, this one looks very cool and is pretty in proportion. Because of the wet suit, extraneous detailing is at a minimum, which really helps. More often than not, you end up with so many pouches, belts, and shoulder pads that the figure becomes pretty restricted in their articulation. With Depth Charge, it seems articulation is key, and it works well for him.

His head sculpt is great, with a nice scuba cap, that leaves his face free and looks very cool overall. The rest of his mold is slim and effective, looking like someone who swims professionally, and looking just as a navy diver should. Of course, he doesn't really look like a military-style Navy diver, but I still appreciate his wet-suited look and overall appearance.
There are some excellent, key detail works, too, with some nice layered flaps and creases running through the uniform, just to make it all the cooler. Add all of this to the improved articulation (swivel wrists and ankles!) and you've got a really nice Joe water-based figure.

Paint Applications/Color Choices

This is another place where this figure shines, somewhat surprisingly. Bright orange might be a "no no" but on this figure, for some reason, it works. I think most of the success of this color pattern comes from the cartoon where Torpedo first appeared and where the Joes often appeared in wet suits colored very similarly. It was quite smart of Hasbro to go this route with the colors, and I'm glad they did. While normally I might not appreciate bright orange on any figure, here it works well and I really like it. Add to that the nice gray trim throughout the figure and you have a great, albeit bright, version of Depth Charge, which could also be easily used for other Joes as well.

While the cartoon version of this suit was orange and black, the orange/gray combination works nicely too and breaks up the color scheme…I really, really like how it looks.

Accessories

Well, I loved this little Jet Ski when it came with Depth Charge originally, and the Wave Crusher STILL rocks. Now in orange instead of blue/gray and yellow, it matches the figure well and still looks very cool. I'm not sure why, but I have a thing for jet skis, and this one does not disappoint. A very cool little vehicle, and an awesome way to release these.

Final Comments

A good update to a great figure and nothing really to complain about. Yeah, things are a little light and bright, but overall it works for this figure and for this vehicle and I like it a lot. Nicely done.
