G.I. Joe Convention 2013 GIJCC Panel Recap

I apologize, I wrote this post yesterday and thought it had posted over here on GeneralsJoes, but apparently it had not.

The G.I. Joe Collectors Club panel happened yesterday, and much was discussed about the creative process with convention and club exclusives, but the most exciting news of the day was the official announcement of the FSS Series 2!

G.I. Joe Convention 2013 Hasbro Panel Recap

Good afternoon from Indianapolis, and welcome to the 2013 G.I. Joe Convention Hasbro Seminar coverage!

I’m sure the news is out there by now that Hasbro did not bring any new product or new concepts to reveal at this year’s convention. While this has caused some concern among the fandom, rest assured, things are not DOA and the line is not in dire straits.

The early positive buzz from the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film has already encouraged Paramount to green light a third film, and Hasbro is reacting to that as we speak. The results have driven Hasbro to greatly increase production for Wave 3 and 4 product, and placed those orders to their factories. As a result of the increased production requests, unfortunately the release of Wave 3 will be pushed back slightly from May, 2013 to late July or August, 2013. The pessimist would say that this is a bad thing, but personally I’d rather wait an extra 4 – 6 weeks to ensure that enough product is made and distributed to ensure allocation to everyone who wants it.

G.I. Joe Convention 2013 – Day One Recap and Report

So the first day of the convention has completely spiraled out of our control and it’s now after 5:00pm before I’m getting anything posted.  How does this happen?!

First and foremost, I do want to let people know that I have been getting pictures of the 2013 Convention Exclusives…just the quick cheesy hotel room shots that I kind of hate doing, but I do it anyway because, HEY I have a compulsion.

You can find those images on the YoJoe.Com JoeCon 2013 Gallery section.

The big news shaking out from the first day of the convention is, of course, the lack of new product being shown in the Hasbro booth.  There have been rumors floating around the sales floor that there may be no new product shown from Hasbro this entire weekend.  How is this possible?

To be honest, I’m not sure.  We’ve got a ton of momentum from the #1 movie in the world, G.I. Joe: Retaliation…we are on the precipice of a huge new influx of movie accurate product starting in early summer, and it would seem to be the perfect jumping off point for Hasbro to thrust G.I. Joe into the spotlight for the holiday season (not to mention an inevitable DVD release).

There is still a good chance that we might see new product in the slideshow presentation tomorrow, there are just no samples ready for display.  It’s also possible that Hasbro will put out new product tomorrow after their presentation, but as I mentioned, the rumors floating around the sales floor are that this is not going to happen.  I prefer to wait until I hear something more official, but I feel it necessary to at least brace the readers for that eventuality.

I will, of course, heartily encourage everyone to follow me on Twitter, as that is where my most fluid, current content gets streamed straight from the seminars.  That will never be more true than it is tomorrow, so if you want to have the latest info as quickly as possible, Twitter is your best bet.  It’s far easier for me to pump information out that way then try to jump on my laptop in between seminars to recap.  That will happen as well, of course, but just as a heads up.  The Hasbro seminar happens at 11:00am Eastern time.

Also please remember that the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club is having their seminar tomorrow, which means some possible information about the Figure Subscription Service, Volume Two!  That is certainly something to get excited for as well, and I’ll be covering that starting at 4:00pm Eastern.

G.I. Joe Convention 2013 “Day Zero” Report

Hey G.I. Joe fans, we are live from Indianapolis covering the 2013 G.I. Joe Collectors Convention. Golden Ticket holders have picked up their convention sets, including the exclusive G.I. Joe Collectors Club Convention comic, which revealed some details about the convention exclusives.

The following was included in the convention comic:

– Night Force Specialist 2-Pack (LE 800)
– Night Force FLAK w/ Steeler (LE 800)
– Carded Lady Jaye (LE 1000)
– Night Boomer (LE 1000)
– KRE-O G.I. Joe Night Force 6 Figure Set (LE 1000)
– KRE-O Parachute Hit & Run (LE 500)

There are also Adventure Team and Night Force tee shirts along with a convention hat and Night Force beanie. The Club also brought 500 packaged Club exclusive Icebergs, and loose editions as well.

So, this weekend, expect to see some up close and personal pictures of the upcoming Iceberg.

There are several theories surrounding the convention exclusives. Some vendors received their Carded Lady Jaye figures already, and it is built with a vintage cardback and looks to be very similar to the concept case version, with a mixture of 25th Anniversary and more modern parts. She does look to be a darker gray, more Night Force version of the character.

Thanks to GeneralsJoes site sponsor Kokomo Toys for the image.

As for the Night Force Specialists 2-Pack, considering who appears in the comic, I think the safest bet right now is Chuckles and Crazylegs. Both characters are in the comic, and both characters seem to be the only Joes in the comic who are not already associated with exclusives.

We will find out more tomorrow!

And don’t think I haven’t noticed that we’re not getting just one… but TWO new Hit & Run items this weekend!  AWWwwwww YEAH.

Need some JoeCon listening material? Yet another What’s on Joe Mind Episode is up!

It seems like nonstop posting of What’s on Joe Mind content over the past week, but we figure with everyone travelling to JoeCon this week, you’re going to need something to listen to in your planes, trains, and automobiles!  Now the question is, how could we possibly top a Jon Chu appearance?

Umm, yeah.  I got nothing.  But this episode is Live, Raw, uncut and uncensored!  Right before JoeCon we typically do a quick and dirty unedited episode, and that’s what #77 is.  Warning, explicit language!  Check it out at our Podbean page, or via the embedded players below.

Well, its our second annual pre-JoeCon “Live” episode.  Who could we have as our guest on the heels of Jon Chu…well, how about TNI’s and the CFB’s Don Anderson.  Feel a little let down now?  Yeah, a little.  Imagine how we felt…but Don brought his B-Game for us and we had a semi-good show.  We answer more of your listener mail, talk about the surprising returns of Retaliation, rejoice at the green lighting of GI Joe 3, and do a ton of preview for JoeCon – INCLUDING the 10 day AccuJoe Forecast and  items you should bring with you on your trip to Indianapolis.  For those of you who are wondering, we also have James Kavanaugh’s list from last year, so take note!!

So this is our last regular edition for a couple of weeks.  Thankfully, no Chuck until then.  In the meantime, catch our JoeCon Special Editions and see us LIVE (for real time time) in the Grand Ballroom ON STAGE at JoeCon on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 from 4:00-4:50pm.

See you in Gary’s hometown of Indy!!

GIJCC confirms that Kre-On figure from Paradrop will be a Con exclusive!

With the information yesterday that the 2013 G.I. Joe Convention will feature a paradrop with a Kre-O KreOn figure, and not a traditional G.I. Joe figure, some folks figured that meant there would be a convention exclusive Kre-On figure used.

Well, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club took to Twitter today to confirm that fact:

So Kre-O fanatics, something to look forward to if you’re going to be in Indy next week!  Thanks to Kenny on Twitter for pointing this out to me.

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club announces 2013 Convention Parachute Drop… with KRE-ONS!

This press release hit my email box this morning, with the G.I. Joe Collectors Club officially announcing the parachute drop for the 2013 G.I. Joe Convention in Indianapolis!  One key surprise was immediately evident.  The parachute figure this year will be a KRE-ON.

For those of us who are into Kre-O sets and figures this is a pretty cool twist, although I will say part of me was looking forward to a typical 4″ G.I. Joe parachute figure as well.  Regardless, it will be very interesting to see what the Collectors’ Club has up their sleeve for Kre-O at JoeCon this year.

G.I. Joe Collectors Club posts 2013 JoeCon Schedule of Events

Need to plan your convention experience?  Well, the G.I. Joe Collectors Club has just made it a whole lot easier.  They’ve posted the schedule for the 2013 G.I. Joe Convention right here.  Featuring a lot of the great panels you’ve come to expect from Hasbro, the voice actors, Larry Hama and Kirk Bozigian, this year they’ve also branched out some.

Dave Tree is travelling over from the UK to do a Palitoy Action Force seminar and there’s What’s on Joe Mind Live–…

Wait.  What?

Dammit Godsoe, you never tell me anything!

Check out the full Convention Schedule right here.

Charbroil’s head sculpt revealed on GIJoeCon Facebook page

Well, look at that!  You wouldn’t necessarily think so, but a slight change in hair color makes all the difference in the world.  It helps that this head has only been used with masked characters so far as well.

Yes, Charbroil uses the same head sculpt as the Rise of Cobra Aqua-Viper Officer and more recently as the Figure Subscription Service Dice, but with the red hair he looks like a totally different guy.  The G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club showed his unmasked head on their Facebook page.  It’s also mirrored below.

The What’s on Joe Mind Special Edition 23 Convention Brochure Read Along

I’ve been down and out with the flu for a few days and unfortunately have been lax with posting this, but as registration looms, seems like I should get it up in people’s faces so they can get well versed on what to expect from the G.I. Joe Convention.

For the past two years, we’ve recorded special editions based on the Convention Brochure, and the one we recorded last year was one of our most listened to episodes ever, so it was a no brainer to do it again…evidently people found it useful.

Check it out over on our Podbean Page, or via the embedded players below.
