Product images posted for Hot Toys Days of Future Past Wolverine

My fascination for Hot Toys was initially sparked by their G.I. Joe: Retaliation releases, but it has started to spill over into Marvel cinematic product as well. I don’t own many of them, but the few that I do are some of my most treasured items. The sculpting and detail work, not to mention the actor likenesses and the craftsmanship of the clothing are second to none.

Over on their Facebook Page, Hot Toys has revealed some product images from bloggers who already have the Days of Future Past Wolverine 1:6th scale figure in hand, and these images are simply mind blowing.

I’ve mirrored a handful below, but you can find much more over on Facebook, and if you dig the looks of this figure as much as I do, hit up the Pre-Order on Sideshow Collectibles. Wow.

Top 10 G.I. Joe Stories of 2014

I set out to write this article, and was immediately surprised by the fact that there was actually some stuff happening with the G.I. Joe brand in 2014.  I know the fandom is eager to jump and say that G.I. Joe was high and dry in this momentous year, and from a practical perspective, it was, but even so, there were lots of things happening this year worth exploring.  Not on any grand scale, however.

I suppose that’s a commentary on the state of G.I. Joe these days, where it remains somewhat relevant, but just barely.  And one is forced to ask what’s worse? Being totally irrelevant, or being just relevant enough to cling around, but not relevant enough to try and push harder.  It’s like the brand is stuck in this murky middle ground where it’s got the slightest hint of popularity enough for Hasbro to keep it hanging on, but not enough to get a real push.  Yet, until it fades away completely, it likely won’t get a full rejuvination either.

All that being said, there were still some discussion points throughout 2014, and here are my top 10.  I’m going to try very hard to maintain a sense of positivity and optimism, because dammit I still love G.I. Joe, even if the rest of the world currently couldn’t give a crap.

Check out the list after the break.

Sideshow Collectibles has discharged G.I. Joe…at least for now

The Year of the Snake has provided some of the best G.I. Joe Sideshow product we have seen to date, which is why it’s such a shame that G.I. Joe’s obscurity from retail has now extended to Sideshow Collectibles 12″ offerings.  At least for the next six months.

Sideshow Collectibles has announced that they will have no new G.I. Joe related news at SDCC this year, which means nothing of note until 2015 at the earliest.  As someone who just bought Major Bludd and is slated to get Destro in the mail on Wednesday, I’m disappointed by the news, but not necessarily surprised.

A quick perusal on the G.I. Joe section at SideshowToy.com will show you that many of their offerings are still in stock, and most of those offerings have been there for a while.  So, stay tuned, perhaps something cool will be coming next year, but for now, anyway, the disappearance of G.I. Joe at the 12″ scale has been extended to all formats.  Sound taps now.

Thanks to YT24 on Twitter for the heads up.

Very cool behind the scenes look at Sideshow Collectibles

There are only fringes of these videos that deal directly with G.I. Joe, but any kind of “behind the scenes” perspective when it comes to toy making is pretty interesting.  These are no different.

The folks at Sideshow Collectibles were interviewed by Tested.com and a pair of very revealing videos were released showing those interviews.  A great look at pre-production design, and preparing something for production.  These two videos focus on the Premium Format figures specifically, so expect to see some Crimson Baroness cameos.  Check out the videos on SideshowToy.com or embedded below.

The time has come… add Destro to your 12″ Sideshow Cobra ranks!

Ever since I first saw him, I immediately knew I need to own this one.  Even as I saw complaints emerge from throughout the G.I. Joe fandom, this was one key Sideshow Collectibles figure that I had been waiting for…and in my opinion they NAILED it.

Plenty of the great classic elements of the Destro character we all know and love, but with enough of an added Sideshow twist to really bring the character to life in this great Sideshow “universe” they have built.  I love both unique head sculpt, I love that he has a trenchcoat or the familiar leather jacket.  I love, love, LOVE the gauntlets.  This is an awesome offering from Sideshow Collectibles and it is ON SALE NOW.

Check out SideshowToy.com to pick up your 12″ Destro and add him to your Cobra ranks.  You will not regret it!

Sideshow Collectibles showcases upcoming Destro 12″ figure!

I feel like I’m in the minority here, but I am really in love with the upcoming Sideshow Destro.  I’ve always loved the trenchcoat look, and Sideshow Collectibles added just enough modern elements while keeping the right classic elements (wrist rockets FTW!) to give us a terrific update to the Cobra Weapons Supplier.

Sideshow has posted a great preview of the upcoming figure, including a shot of an awesome leather jacket version of the figure, which might make fans longing for a more classic representation more happy.

Check out the preview right here, and stay tuned for Thursday, when the pre-order goes live!

Pre-Order for Sideshow Collectibles 12″ Storm Shadow is LIVE!

Every single image of this figure makes me love it even more…  a terrific ’88 style update to the venerable Cobra Ninja Storm Shadow, and I have to admit, worlds better than what we saw with the first Storm Shadow release.

I’m really digging the modern look at this character, and the fact that even though Sideshow went with the aesthetic of Storm Shadow on the G.I. Joe team, but keeps him affiliated with Cobra.

Check out the Pre-Order at the links below.

The Sideshow Exclusive version of the Storm Shadow Sixth Scale Figure will also include a cobra head katana accessory (above left). Wherever his allegiance lies, Storm Shadow is always ready to strike!

The regular and Exclusive versions of Storm Shadow Sixth Scale Figure will be priced at $179.99.

The Exclusive version of the Storm Shadow Sixth Scale Figure to be available for pre-order in our upcoming weekly Sideshow Newsletter this Thursday, August 15th, 2013, typically published between 2 and 3pm (PST). Don’t let this ninja sneak past you!
