Somewhat surprising to us, many folks have been asking if we could do a screening of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film with our own commentary…well, since G.I. Joe news is so slow, we figured what better time than now! Join Gary, Justin, and Mike as they watch the entire G.I. Joe: Retaliation Extended Action Cut on Blu-Ray and give their thoughts and opinions throughout the entire film.
We tried to keep sports metaphors to a minimum, but no promises about childish humor.

It feels like it’s been forever, probably because…well, it’s been forever, but the latest episode of the What’s on Joe Mind podcast is officially online! Nearly three hours devoted to some great G.I. Joe discussion with a healthy injection of Kre-O/Lego love from Brickarms, and some great Marvel SDCC talk with our old buddy Arune.
As always check out the episode on our Podbean Page, or it is also embedded below. Click the “Read More” link for the Show Notes.
We heard early rumor about the possibility of licensed apparel from G.I. Joe: Retaliation, but there hasn’t been nearly as much as one might think. Mostly a result of the film delay, I’d imagine, but still the lack of great G.I. Joe: Retaliation clothing was a little bit distressing.
It’s not your typical licensed apparel, this is a full blown replica of the awesome trench coat that Cobra Commander wore in the motion picture. At $829.00 this won’t be something you wear to your next power lunch, but it’s an awesome high end collectible for the discerning G.I. Joe: Retaliation fan. Set to be released in January, 2014, you can hit up Entertainment Earth! to get your own.
Yes, the home release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation has hit, but AMC Theaters are offering a very special opportunity to see it again on the big screen! Not only that, but every showing supports charities across the country. Very limited showings also feature a special exclusive poster and a $5 discount for the Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack.
Check out the full press release and some exclusive images after the jump.
It was a little bit tough keeping track of all the various releases of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film, but the one that really seemed to be rising to the top for most G.I. Joe fans was the Best Buy exclusive “Extended Action Cut” Blu-Ray. And one watch of the film really exemplified that to me.
The Extended Action Cut features nearly 13 minutes of additional footage, and while you might not think so, that 13 minutes made a world of difference. Yes, I’ve already reviewed the standard release Blu-Ray, but now, I’ve also reviewed the Extended Action Cut and also did a little breakdown of the most important (in my view) footage that was included in the film.
The DVD and Blu-Ray release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation hit this past Tuesday along with a special “Extended Action Cut” featuring nearly 13 minutes of additional footage, which has made a huge difference to the flow of the film, in my opinion. But many fans want to know exactly what new footage is there before they pull the trigger and buy it.
I started collecting some stuff together for my Extended Action Cut review, but then Fred from JoeBattleLines directed me to Movie-Censorship.com which has a spectacular breakdown (with screen captures) of all the additional footage and scenes. It even compares some stuff that was in the theatrical release with stuff that’s different in the Extended Action Cut besides just added footage.
Anyone who has been paying attention (and even many folks who haven’t) are noticing that there are a ton of different variations of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation Blu-Ray or DVD release. Between Best Buy, Walmart’s Steelbook, and all regular mass release items, it’s been tricky keeping it all straight.
The Buyer’s Guide that I wrote up has been helping (I hope), but still the Target exclusive Blu-Ray has been a bit foggy. Well, Paramount has kindly provided video, which I have embedded below.
“Brothers Beyond Blood” focuses on the history of the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow conflict and how that has translated into the film universe. Check it out!
We heard about this last week, and now we have it all on video, and uploaded it to YouTube. It’s unknown whether that’s truly Ray Park under the mask (though I seriously doubt it), but man… Snake Eyes can pitch with some style, and he’s apparently a Southpaw! Check it out below.
Some additional details:
Paramount has confirmed (as well as several social media sites) that Ray Park was actually the one in the uniform throwing out the first pitch, which is awesome. Big ups to Ray for doing that! We also have some great images of the event below the video.
A few days ago, I had a unique opportunity to speak with G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu and I really wanted to talk to him a bit about the Extended Action Cut, and of course also slide in some G.I. Joe 3 related questions. This is a very short interview, but it gives some really nice insight into the thought process of the Extended Action Cut and also explained why some of the deleted scenes were not included even in the Extended Cut. We also talk a bit about Scarlett and what might be in the works for G.I. Joe 3.
The interview is posted over on YoJoe.com go check it out!
