Throughout the lifecycle of the G.I. Joe: Battleground collectible game, they’ve pulled many storylines from the Sunbow era, and they are doing it again this time around. Using the events of arguably the highlight of the Sunbow series, “The Traitor”, the next Battleground event is live, and looks like a whole lot of fun.
After many costly defeats at the hands of the Joes, the Crimson Twins approach a worry-stricken Joe hero with a proposition he can’t refuse. This slippery slope culminates in G.I.JOE being lured to a deep-sea platform with an explosive surprise! The Joe leadership is dealt a terrible blow, but things go from bad to worse as Cobra launches an all-out attack to free their newest, most promising, most traitorous lieutenant! Can the fight for freedom survive the Snake in the Sea Grass? Find out in this week’s exciting Capture event, starting today!
Check out the screen caps below. I am loving the Crimson Twins, and really dig how they used the PoC Dusty to be a Cobra version of the character. Pretty sweet.
G.I.JOE’s victory in the Arctic is short-lived as new intel suggests there are THREE more Cobra Control Cubes being set up across the globe! If Cobra manages to activate these devices, the entire world will be at the Enemy’s mercy as all electronics on Earth are shut down! As Global Warfare breaks out, new Super-Soldiers Dial-Tone and Tele-Viper deploy and direct Joe and Cobra squads from the field while Torpedo and Legendary Doc perform covert ops and keep their soldiers patched up. Will G.I. JOE dismantle the Cobra plot in time? Find out in the exciting Global Warfare event, on now!
Fresh off of events featuring a story tied to the Sunbow 2-Parter “Worlds Without End” we’re getting another Sunbow themed follow up based on the classic episode “The Viper is Coming”. Of course any connection is pretty tenuous, as I’m pretty sure Blackout never appeared in that old school episode.
G.I.JOE has received numerous calls from a mysterious informant whose cryptic messages lead the Joes unerringly to Cobra bases and operations all over the globe! The two sides clash as each tries to discover the identity of the enigmatic caller known simply as the Viper. Can Stalker, G.I.JOE’s original ranger, stand up to Black Out, Cobra’s cold, methodical sniper? How will your squads fare with the new debuff logic? Find out in the exciting Global Warfare event, The Viper Calls, on now!
G.I. Joe: Battleground, the exciting collectible card mobile game from DeNA and Mobage has launched their next event, and they’re taking things to the stars!
G.I. Joe’s top operatives have stowed away aboard a Cobra supply rocket headed for a M.A.R.S. space station, which is poised to take over all of Earth’s satellites! Meanwhile, G.I. Joe calls in the Star Brigade, but will even Sci-Fi, Payload, Ozone, Roadblock, and Rock ‘n Roll be enough to defeat Destro’s newest battle armor design? And what happens when Baroness puts her considerable field and intelligence experience towards repelling the Joe attack? Find out in the exciting Takedown Event starting today!
See the mirrored images below. Star Brigade Sci-Fi FTW!
The dichotomy between 2013 and this upcoming new year couldn’t have been more stark than it was when I was researching the Top 10 biggest news stories for the past year. We went from anticipating a new film, lots of new Hasbro release toys, the emergence of Kre-O, and many other potential new G.I. Joe events from the upcoming year to a year of total uncertainty.
Today marks the beginning of the 50th Anniversary of the G.I. Joe brand, a brand steeped in history and cultural relevance, and it seems to be a real shame that such an event would go mostly ignored by Hasbro, who wouldn’t exist as an entity today without G.I. Joe’s presence throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. A damn shame that nearly four full decades of success relegates a once remarkable brand to the potential dustbins of history and pop culture insignificance. G.I. Joe as a brand helped build you, Hasbro. It would be nice if you would at least spend some efforts trying to return the favor.
Rant over. :)

The latest PVP event ended a few days ago, so now it’s time for the next big surge! Cobra has discovered the location of The Pit, and it’s up to a few of the Original 13 Joes to stop them.
Flash, Grunt, and Zap team up to try and battle back Destro and Crimson Guard Commander.
As always the artwork on these new cards are fantastic, not just in execution, but in concept. I’m in love with the Crimson Guard Commander, the fact that they used the GIJCC Iron Grenadier Destro, and that the Epic version of Flash is his Rise of Cobra version? Solid GOLD.
Well, Mobage and DeNA did it to us again last night and snuck in a new event right under our noses! It’s another PVP event, with some great potential rewards. See if you can score a Legendary Zartan (based off his awesome Pursuit of Cobra look) and work to win an Epic Nunchuk!
Along with these two, there are new soldiers to recruit as well, including Jinx and Cobra B.A.T.!
Last, but not least, for December, a brand new Invitation bonus in the form of the Cobra Ninja Slice. Check out screen caps for all of these new cards below.
There wasn’t much of a warning this time around, but G.I. Joe: Battleground has launched their latest event tonight, another round of their “Operation: Takedown” theme. For the first time ever, we see the Oktober Guard in the G.I. Joe: Battleground universe, each with their own special bonus against the Takedown boss… Darklon!
I know folks have their questions about the game, but every time I see new artwork, I fall a little bit more in love with that aspect of the game. I really love how the folks from DeNA are using so much source material from the G.I. Joe Collectors Club designs, which run rampant through this entire event. Very cool.
