Some additional Convention details from GIJoeCon FAQ

Over the past few weeks, the G.I. Joe Collectors Club has been posting updates to their FAQ to try and answer some fan questions.

A couple of responses have been posted that add some clarity to Convention activities.  First and foremost, there unfortunately will be no parachute drop this year, due to the convention locale and not being able to get a site together.

Parachute figures will be sold in the Club store starting Thursday night, with the hopes that there will be enough for everyone:

Q: Has the parachute drop been confirmed one way or the other yet?
A: Unfortunately, the venues we were trying to get for the drop did not work out. Therefore, there will not be a drop this year. However, you will be able to purchase the parachute figure starting on Thursday night and it will be very close for everyone to get a figure.

Now, the big question… how much money are we talking?  This response sheds considerable light on things.  The responder mentions $600 for all 3 3/4″ items and $200 for the 12″ items.  Looking at the price list for last year, the total was closer to $430 for all 3 3/4″ items:

Now, who knows if the $600 includes any apparel, and the FAQ clarifies that this does include one large vehicle.  As an aside, the FAQ also makes reference to an “additional souvenir” as well…

Q: How much money should I bring to buy all of the 2015 convention exclusive souvenirs?
A: Costs have gone up because of the complexity of the deco on the items and air freight caused by the dock workers issues on the west coast. There is also an additional souvenir item this year and one that is a large vehicle. If you want to get one of everything you will need approximately $600 for the convention 3 3/4″ items and $200 for the 12″ items.

That is…  quite a jump in price.  But without knowing the specifics it’s hard to make a judgement.  We’ll all see in a little more than a week!

  1. I really want to rant about them passing off the cost of air freighting in the souvenirs to us paying attendees, but honestly I didn’t expect them to do anything else. Touching that $30k in Gold Ticket money would be too easy and logical.

  2. Also the Homefront Hero packages used to get free shipping, but don’t anymore and likely won’t get their packages till June. Ouch.

  3. I almost suspect that they’re using that $30K to pay off initial costs for BotCon which is their REAL cash cow. GIJCC is just the second fiddle for Fun Pub anymore.
