GeneralsJoes Reviews G.I. Joe: Retaliation Budo and Kwinn

The news just broke today that G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 3.5 pre-orders are shipping from certain online retailers, but here at GeneralsJoes we’re getting a jump on things early.  Big thanks to Glumby for hooking me up with some early samples of these upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures, and I’ve posted two new reviews to the G.I. Joe: Retaliation Review Page.

  1. Budo does nothing for me.

I can at least appreciate Kwinn, but I don’t have much fondness or memories of him. But it’s cool that he got made and everyone’s happy with it.

In the end, these are probably my least two looked forward to figures of this wave. Well, the Snake Eyes looks pretty weak from what I’ve seen so far too…

Wake me up when you get to Cobra Commander. That is likely to be my favorite GI Joe figure EVER.

  2. If I had to nitpick on Kwinn (and this is just a nitpick), he could have been a little bigger. Back in the 80’s everybody from Bazooka to Jinx had to be the same size, but now we have figures with different sized builds, and Kwinn was so huge in the comics he could have used a bigger body. Still a great figure.

I have very different thoughts on Budo. If I came across that figure without packaging or prior knowledge of who he was, I would have no idea he was even supposed to be a GI Joe. I know “Samurai” isn’t that far of a leap from “Ninja” but somehow the ninjas make it work with a realistic modern military unit and Budo just doesn’t. He is way too “Samurai” and not enough “Samurai who became an Army soldier.” If they had pulled off this hybrid look like the original 80’s figure (even without copying the original exactly) I would love it, but I can’t see this Budo in my collection.
