G.I. Joe: Retaliation Cobra Commander voice actor revealed!

This question has been floating around the fandom for a very long time, and many fans just short of assumed that Charlie Adler was voicing the menacing Cobra Commander in the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film.  Apparently this is not the case!

PopSugar.com interviewed Robert Baker, and within the scope of that interview, he revealed that he is indeed the voice of Cobra Commander in the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation film.  You can watch the interview below, he reveals the tidbit at around 6:25 in the video below.  Mr. Baker has previously been in the television show Justified (along with fellow Retaliation alums Walt Goggins and Joseph Mazzello) and will be in Lone Ranger this summer as well.  You can see his resume on IMDB.com.

A huge thanks to Erik for sharing this interview with GeneralsJoes.  It’s been a mystery, and it’s awesome to get that mystery revealed!

  1. Who was mentioning Charlie Addler? Seeing how Paramount stayed away from established voice actors in the other franchises’ movie I’d expect the same here

  2. I heard it as a rumor, but can’t remember where it was from. i’ll have to wait till i see the movie to give a final judgment, but if it were me i would have picked Adler.

  3. With the notable exception of using Cullen for Prime. But even then, they skipped over David Kaye in favour of Hugo Weaving when it came to Megatron (when Kaye had been playing versions of Megatron for, what, a decade?).

  4. Cullen voicing Prime was due to Spielberg pushing for the fans to get that crumb

  5. When I first saw the headline, I wondered if he had a connection to Chu. Baker was great in Justified (I hope his character returns at some point, too), but he isn’t exactly known for voice work. I’m looking forward to hearing his take on the character.

  6. Adler was listed erroneously on IMDB which caused a bunch of fan speculation that he would be the voice. And Adler was already the voice of Starscream in the Transformers films, so there is precedent.

  7. In Transformers there was Kevin Michael Richardson, Charlie Adler, Peter Cullen, Grey Delisle, Jess Harnell, Tom Kenny, Robin Atkin Downes,John DiMaggio, Keith Szarabajka, Frank Welker, Greg Berg, and Andre Sogliuzzo. James Remar does live action work so he is debatable.
