GeneralsJoes reviews upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation Cobra Invasion 3-Pack Firefly!

First and foremost, a huge thanks to Josh for letting me borrow this figure in order to do this review.  I’m extremely flattered that he offered this up so I could get the review done for the review page, hopefully I did him proud.

This figure is slated for release in first quarter 2013 as part of the Wave 2 G.I. Joe: Retaliation 3-Packs.  The “Cobra Invasion” 3-Pack is also slated to come with Storm Shadow and the Cobra Invasion ParaTrooper.  Check out the full review in my G.I. Joe: Retaliation Review page, or hit the direct link below.

Hey Justin, can you throw up a comparison pic with v1 Firefly next time you have him out? Thanks!

  • alvarobm

I have this one, and tried to take some pics and make a review, but my shots were all horrible. The only difference between mine and this one is the pistol, that is gray in my version.

Is a very good figure, but have some low points:

    - His facemask is too smooth; I think the mask used on previous 25th versions (with the seams) give a much more agressive look;

    - His backpack is useless for a saboteur; would make more sense to use the wave 3 one or the comic pack one (although overused, is still my favorite);
    - The shotgun could be changed for a sub-machine gun that can be single-handed, when he is using the other hand to dispose bombs.

The grenade luncher is great to create diversion on his enemies; maybe I´m wrong, but I think is a new mold.

Otherwise is a great figure, I recommend to everyone who loves this character!

Great review, the only thing not awesome about this figure is the mundane and lacking head sculpt, the 25th one is far superior. Otherwise though, this is THE Firefly to own….so far ;)

It’ll be interesting to see if the “ultimate” version will beat this one.

Oh, and thanks Josh (and Justin). :)

  • DrSyn

Man, just look at him compared to the 1st 25th style Firefly. How far they’ve come with figures. Wowsers man, wowsers.

It’s safe to say that this 3 pack will be rather wanted, thanks to Firefly.

  • Darth Cuddles

Thanks for the review, Justin, I’ve been itching to see more of this guy since I saw the first shots of him! And thanks to Josh for making the review possible!

I could be wrong about this, but I think his Torso is the same as the Concept Case Flint from Joecon!

  • Erik

I was thinking it was the same one that came with RoC Heavy Duty but after comparing the two, you may be right.

  • Erik

I’m pretty sure the “Ultimate” version uses the same recipe but uses the Paris Pursuit Storm Shadow torso instead. Personally I like this one a lot better.

  • revsears

Thanks Josh and Justin! The comparison to the 25th pic is really telling. I’ll still likely switch out to a head that isn’t as smooth and add some goggles to it, ever since the TRU firefly you mentioned I really feel goggles with yellow lenses are a must for the character.

  • Hawkwinter

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too, that this is the real “ultimate” version

  • Alexx

Neat! Amazing how it kicks the 25th version over and continues to kick it while it’s down. Anyway, I’m with Justin! Lets see the 90′s one! Come on people! At least a repainted homage.

  • Steevy Maximus

Thanks for the look at this figure, the 3 packs have been awesome at getting some really nifty figures at a good price. Personally, I still think this Firefly and the “Ultimate 85″ Snake Eyes we saw were originally slated for the 30th line, but got bumped due to their characters’ presence in the movie.

  • FredVIII

You guys got a link to the “ultimate” version you’re talking about? I don’t remember ever seeing that.

  • FredVIII

Other than not liking the fact that SE and FF shop at the same store for their pants (and boots), pretty darn awesome. Should come with the new scuplt ’84 era backpack that the 25th fig came with, though. But we all probably have that anyway.

  • Dusty Ayers

The HD one came to my mind too. I think it might be new sculpt.

  • Hawkwinter

Go to the top of this page, click on Super Pages and then Retaliation toys, scroll down till found. Justin always has this stuff covered ;)

The Headsculpt is no big deal, as I assume it’s movie-accurate. What makes it look strange is the textured turtleneck underneath the smooth mask.

Other than that… looking very, very good. The guns need a bit of a paint wash, but then that seems to be the case for most Retaliation stuff and is easy enough to do on your own.

But the three-packs are absolutely the greatest thing about Retaliation. I shudder at how fast they’re going to sell out at online sites this time around.

  • ero

You know, I still really like the original 25th version. The colors are perfect. With a pair of 5-pack Hawk hands and Buzzer’s gas tank, he’s my Sunbow Firefly, ready to drop some of his “hot sauce” into a fleet of Skystrikers.

  • Hawkwinter

Agreed, the first wave of three packs were the saving grace of the Retaliation line so far. Love every figure, and wave two looks just as good if not better.

  • FredVIII

Ah, I remember now–thanks to Justin’s Superpage! I guess a forgot because nothing about that fig says ‘ultimate’ to me unlike this 3-pack version.

  • Erik

I imagine Hasbro’s thinking is that the “Ultimate” Firefly is the ultimate movie version. The one in the 3-pack is more along the lines of a 30th Anniversary version.

  • http://twitter.com/geoffdes78 Geoff DeSouza

Well, there’s a LOT of backpack choices for Firefly. Heck, just pick up one of those Crimson HISS tanks that are on clearance everywhere and you have a couple of the tough-to-find Pursuit of Cobra packs (albeit in black rather than grey).

  • MFJayman

Now THAT is Firefly! Thank you Hasbro (or Joe Team designers and sculptors, more specifically). Some characters have certainly benefited from redesigns over the years, but that 1984 Firefly design was just so perfect right from the start–gah! I’m just so excited for this!
I really hope a variant or repaint of this guy comes out singled carded eventually. I’d love to have one both carded and loose, which I always do with my favorite figures.

Now then, lets get some of those other movie-relevant characters from the Concept Vault out there next year–if in 3 packs, like this Firefly, then fine. 30th Flint, anyone?!?!

  • DrSyn

Zipcord Spintop blade thingy or bust, I’m not kidding.

  • jason welcome

this is such a amazing figure! I cant wait to get my hand on him, i will however wait for it to show up at retail…hard as it is to wait ^_^

  • Ogre_h

This is a great figure. To me the only downside is the left handed holster. But at least it works. So when do these come out?

  • Goldbug

I will buy multiples of this Firefly! Even if they are neon green! :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/michael.zambardino Michael Zambardino

He looks great. My only complaint is why is his head not camo too!?!
