GeneralsJoes Concept Case Top 10 – Number 3

Getting down to the nitty gritty, which is where you’ll find this particular figure on most people’s want lists.  To be honest, if I had been asked a month ago what my most wanted figure would be, this guy would be pretty much have hit the top of the list without any competition.

Well, when Hasbro unveiled the Concept Case at this year’s G.I. Joe Convention suddenly there was a LOT of competition.  Vehicles, figures, ideas…  it almost relegated this guy to the “been there, done that” pile.  But not quite.

One close up look at this figure will tell you that even for folks who don’t really care for the character are still getting a very good G.I. Joe toy.

3 – G.I. Joe: 30th Anniversary Kwinn

Of course one might ask, among a team of heavily armored, heavily equipped, future tech sporting super-soldiers, where does an Eskimo with shorts, a khaki shirt, and a weasel skull necklace fit in?  That question has obviously been asked a lot, especially by Hasbro themselves as this poor guy (who is a fully tooled and ready for release figure) still has not gotten an opportunity to be released yet.

I think Hasbro pushed fans near the breaking point when they actually displayed him in a case full of unused (and perhaps never-to-be-used) concepts, but based on conversations with Hasbro at JoeCon, I think chances of Kwinn being released are probably around 85 – 90%.  This is not a guy you need to worry about never getting your hands on.  Regardless, he still stands proud pretty close to the top of my Top Ten list.  Admittedly, though, based on responses I’m seeing from the Concept Case survey, I am in the minority for putting him this far back, which should be good news for all of you Kwinn fans out there.

I never read the comics as a kid, and they’ve never meant anything to me as an adult, and as a consequence Kwinn as a character means nothing to me… and if I could only have one G.I. Joe figure for the next ten years it would be Quinn. For my hobby purposes (I focus mostly on Adventure Team/Indiana Jones-style adventure photos), Kwinn is a godsend. If we don’t get him, it’ll be like the canceled Sigma 6 figures all over again.

Hmm… come to think of it… that Adventure Team Sigma 6 Dusty body you’ve got would make a good base for a Sigma 6 Quinn, Justin. Just slap Inferno’s head on it!

Crap. Now I need to get that Dusty figure. They produced, what, three of ‘em?

In my opinion ( and I’ve said it many times ) Kwinn needs to be made. Hasbro teased new ans with the zombie viper and brought in more wrestling fans with having Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson for Roadblock Kwinn needs to be made for the classic comic fans and for anyone one who wants to make either a dio story of the lone merc vs the zombies…and WIN or for those who like to update their Rowdy Rowdy Piper custom ( of course only after having 2 or three in the collection to begin with )

As a mercenary, I don’t think Kwinn is as anachronistic as he’s made out to be. It would be harder for him to access bleeding-edge tech, and he’s always been a resourceful character who relied on his skills moreso than equipment. If they wanted to spice it up, they could add a modern assault rifle (SAW) with an antique M-1919 (while ditching the Roadblock’s M2).

Now we’re talking. I don’t want G.I. Joe to turn into HALO, which is where it seems to be heading. G.I. Joe is about individual characters rather than subgroups of helmeted armor/weapon types.

I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed he’s reusing a good amount of Sgt. Stone tooling, since Kwinn was typically portrayed with a considerably wider frame than Stone’s.
But regardless it’s still an awesome figure and when I filled out the survey he was top of my list in his section.

Agreed. The final product is a bit of a let down. His face especially is incredibly thin and resembles Kwinn in absolutely no way what so ever. Still…..I have this incredible need to own this figure. Kwinn only made it to number three on my list as well, but he is still a figure we really need to have made.

Whoops. I should clarify. The final prototype….lol. Nothing really final about any of these ;)

You just gave me an idea! Since Kwinn died in the comics, and the current Joe design team is on the zombie band wagon, they should produce a zombie Kwinn!

lol. Not quite what I had in mind. Would rather there not be a zombified version in the main line( not my cup of tea) but as a custom made in someone’s collection sounds cool.

In my Joeverse, Kwinn never got killed and will be a welcome addition, if he’s ever released.

I am probably the only guy in the world that really doesn’t care either way about Kwinn. I’m not even sure he made the top 50% in my voting. IF he hits the pegs I’ll get him. But if not, then whatever.

HOWEVER, after seeing that page…goddamnit! I want to be a Kwinner!

Still don’t care if he gets made, but you’ve got my vote next round!
