GeneralsJoes Reviews BBTS Exclusive Barbecue and Burnout!

The Florida Everglades.  0300 hours.

Team Marauder silently eased through the underbrush 46 miles deep into the Florida Everglades.  Covert Military Operations are deeply frowned upon on domestic soil, so Hawk had elected to send in the team that could most easily be written off, should anything go South.  Joined by the Renegades, Falcon led Barbecue, Low Light and Spirit deep into the swampy glades, on the hunt for the Dreadnoks.

Over the past several months, the Dreadnoks had ramped up operations, turning to domestic terrorist groups for weapons transport and grunt work.  They were obviously planning something big.  The Marauders were there to stop it.

Just as Low Light’s infrared goggles flared to life, orange flame roared through the trees ahead, halting them in their tracks.  Burn Out roared a bellowing laugh as he trained the flamethrower on the infiltration team.  Barbecue surged forward.

I didn’t realize they’d given Barbecue some Airtight parts. Awesome! I’m gonna replace the blue head and shoulder pads with the black ones from the TRU Barbecue.

Still not liking the paint apps on Marauder Spirit’s eyes, alas.

    Off to read about Burnout!

Huh. I could see using Recondo as a base, despite the pesky neck peg. But to use every single part of Recondo from the neck down is just lazy; why would this guy have arrows on his wrist?

Still, I’m digging that head sculpt, although facial expressions with “personality” are also limiting; if he’s being tortured or falling from a cliff in a dio, that smirk will look silly.

I’m going to use him as an original character, whatever the case; desperate as I was to get back into G.I. Joe during the Spy Valor Troop Venom days, the figures were just too ridiculous for me, so I have no attachment to this guy.

I like that you’re posting these two at a time. Prolonged gratification!

Man, I gotta admit that the parts choices for Barbecue are awesome. I wish we had this version in the original colors. However, I just can’t get past the Marauder color scheme, it’s just ludicrous.

Burnout is eh. His face sculpt is good, while his hair is bizarre (my grandma kind of wore her hair like that….:(

I would of chosen different parts for Burnout based on what he’s supposed to look like.

That Barbecue though…….may be worth getting a customizer to make me an original color version of him with this construction.

“Awesome! I’m gonna replace the blue head and shoulder pads with the black ones from the TRU Barbecue”

Good call. That would look much better.

“I just can’t get past the Marauder color scheme, it’s just ludicrous.”

But unlike the other Marauders, Barbecue’s blue bits are easily removable, leaving a badass sculpt with badass paint apps. Pop some other head on there and you’ll have a figure MUCH cooler than the orange Anniversary Barbecue.

spirit’s eyes are fine. He’s just perpetually looking for something…

“there’s something in those trees. Aint no man…..we’re all gonna die”

Yeah, I also didn’t realise how Airtighted-up (… eeew…) Barbeque was. I thought he was the weakest figure in the seven-pack in the original pictures simply because, well, firefighters aren’t supposed to be that colour, but it’ll be easy enough to give him some alternate gear and stick him next to Airtight.

So now the only qualm I have about buying the set is that BBTS will over-order it and it’ll be down to $30 within six months… dammit, I’m starting to break down.

Still don’t care about the Dreadnocks, though.

  • Greg

YoJoe has a pic of the Spirit figure’s side by side, and I think the POC’s eyes look better than the 7-pack one. http://yojoe.com/reviews/figures/slaughtersmarauders/gallery7.jpg

  • Erik

I was planning to replace them with the parts from the 25th version myself.

I’ve warmed up to the Dreadnoks pack, but I still really feel that Hasbro blew what should have been an easy hit with this one. They should have given these guys straight up repaints a la the original Marauders deco. Falcon should either have been the canceled Night Force version or a redo of his v1 figure to make up for the comic pack version (because this head sculpt and body are sweet).

This really should have been a movie 7-pack with Falcon in his animated colors, the Renegades closer to their original looks (at this point, I would just be happy with a proper head sculpt on Red Dog) a repaint of the Renegades cartoon Law & Order and Big Lob using Shadow Tracker with a new head sculpt. (I assume we can’t have Jinx yet.)

They should have waited on Marauders until they could get Slaughter.

  • Hawkwinter

Good point. Like many I’ve heard talking these guys will probably get bought to use as custom fodder.

Until and unless Hasbro gets the WWE license, they’re never going to get Sarge. He’s locked up tight with the Mattel / WWE deal. Thinking otherwise is just unrealistic at this point in time.

I guess I’m speaking to Justin’s point about the TTT matching with the Marauders from this set. If that was the intended goal, then better to have done without. I’d rather have sets done right than done in this manner where we have 3 or 4 kinda-sorta Marauders.

  • Ben

“once you get the SDCC Slaughter tied into it, a nice, unifying look starts to come together”

Not really. Slaughter’s camo doesn’t match. The base green’s not even the same shade.

I never understood the Slaughter’s Marauders roster. They’re an armor unit but nobody in the group other than Slaughter had any association with a tank. Especially not Barbecue. Camo fireman seems pretty silly. I figure once your stuff’s on fire bad enough to need a fireman there’s no point in trying to blend in.

  • Dusty Ayers

These sets are kind of tough for me. Some of the decos and heads look great but cool sets that don’t have the articulation the current figures do just seems like a step backwards.

  • Goldbug

Well I loved Slaughter’s Marauders as it gave me another chance to get the characters.
Burnout should have been a proper Monkeywrench instead!
Barbecue is nice. Yes I would have liked original colors too! :D

  • Erik

I don’t think he looks out of place at all. The green and the camo pattern may not be an exact match, but it’s close enough to blend in fairly well.
