GeneralsJoes Reviews the 2011 GIJCC Convention Set!

The day has finally come!  Well, mostly, anyway.  I won’t bother getting into the various reasons why this review was so delayed, but the important thing is that I’ve got it posted…well, for the most part.

Generally even when I don’t make it to the Convention I make arrangements for someone to pick up the exclusives for me.  Well, I let that slip through the cracks a bit this year, and it bit me in the ass, so I am currently Stinger-less, Motor-Viper-less, Cobra Commander-less, Water Moccasin-less, and Tele-Viper Officer-less.  I just can’t squirrel up the extra funds to try and get this stuff on the secondary market.

Thankfully, GeneralsJoes contributor “Beachhead” Mike came through on the Water Moccasin, and Gary “Gyre Viper” Goggles hooked me up with the awesome 2-Pack, so I am able to include those reviews here, but it is essentially the boxed set, the 2-Pack, and the Water Moccasin until I can get my hands on the other stuff.   Hopefully you’ll still find the review helpful!  Check it out as always at the GIJCC Exclusives Review Page, or just click the link directly below:

You got the source of Dial-Tone’s torso and legs wrong. They’re actually RoC Zartan’s.

    Great review.

Just can’t shake the feeling this set would of been so much better if it was in the newer Python colors, ala the PoC Wave 6 Croc Master variant (pic attached).

However, they do look kinda cool, Tele-Viper especially. And I agree with you, Claymore totally looks like Tom Selleck.

While some figures are awesome (that Wet Suit is insane), some are major disapointments…they re-used the Dataframe head….Hasbro….REALLY??? Worst modern era head sculpt bar none. Dial-Tone still looks like Hitler to me but I knew they weren’t going to change that. Trigger is a cool new character and I LOVE how you used de Aco as a BAT leader, that looks so cool!

I’m going to pick up a few of these on E-Bay but I can’t see paying the set price for mostly “meh” figures.

Especially not with Zarana exclusives on their way :)

    No, they’re not.

I still think they didn’t get it right with Leatherneck. The Snow Serpent body would be perfect for him. Plus, he looks way more like Urzor than Leatherneck to me =D

Haha! Spoke before I looked! I only had the membership figure in mind when you mentioned Dialtone! You’re right – I humbly apologize! XD

I would love to get my hands on that Wetsuit and Claymore. The price to do so is insane though.

Not a bad set, not amazing. But solid. Love that Sting Raider/Moccasin repaint though.

    Dear Justin,
I would greatly appreciate it if you could turn me around so that the pistol I have sculpted to me is on the hip rather than covering Dial-tone’s junk. You seem to get this wrong in all of the pictures you take of myself and my brethren. While you do a fantastic job photographing all of my plastic cousins this one foible is beginning to irritate us. When you got it wrong on my cousin the Pit Commando we let it slide. When you failed to correct the positioning of my good friend the green camo Pit Commando we were irked. But now that you’ve portrayed me in the wrong way I’m afraid my plastic compatriots might just revolt. Please work harder to show us to the world how we were meant to be, with our buckle front and center and our gear on our hips.

    Sincerely,
    Dial-tone’s Plastic Coat-tail

Cool review of a pretty nice set. I would love to get my hands on a Claymore to match my vintage one. The price for these sets really turn me off though. These are going for upwards of $500 online. I’m a big Joe fan but that is just too much in my opinion. $500 could buy you a nice vintage piece or a heck of a lot of other things. I’m so enamored with the new wrist articulation that any figure that doesn’t have it just seems dated to me.

I don’t love you any more
