G.I. Joe Sequel adds Cobra Saboteur Firefly to the roster!

Over the past several weeks we’ve been getting reports of various folks in line to play members of the G.I. Joe team, but beyond Storm Shadow, we knew nothing about the bad guys.  Well, that’s now changed!

According, once again, to Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, not only is Firefly in the G.I. Joe sequel, but he will be played by Ray Stevenson!  Stevenson most recently made his presence known as Volstagg in Thor, but is also popular among geeks for his portrayal of Frank Castle (AKA The Punisher) in Punisher War Zone.  He also was in The Book of Eli alongside Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman.

I will admit, I tried to watch Punisher War Zone, but I had trouble keeping with it, I’m not sure that’s any fault of Mr. Stevenson.

The larger news to me is…well… freaking FIREFLY.  Awesome.

Something curious about these cast leaks, however…  a number of months ago, a supposed early leak of a script of the sequel was making its rounds.  I will admit, I have a copy, and I’ve read it.  It has long since been debunked, and certainly, a great deal of it is likely changed or untrue.

However, I can’t help but notice that in that script, Flint, Lady Jaye, and Firefly were all featured pretty heavily.  Could just be a total coincidence, but it will be quite interesting to see if elements of that script end up flowing to the final product.

Whatever happens, I can’t wait for next summer!

    Ok, it’s getting to the point where nothing will keep me away from this movie opening night. I’ll also be dragging all my friends and family to this one. Coming from someone who went on a campaign to keep people away from ROC, that says a lot I think. Ray Stevenson as Firefly??? Seriously, can things get any better? Anyone who has seen Puisher War Zone should be able to see this as being a stroke of genius. I so want a fight scene between Firefly and Roadblock now (odd sentence really, but there you have it).

    Totally psyched for this film.

    First Cobra casting is brilliant. Can’t wait to see what else Chu gives us!

    I love Ray Stevenson. His work as Tytus Pullo on HBO’s Rome was outstanding and he made a really good Punisher. If they go the traditional route and we never see Firefly’s face it could be a challenge to make us care about the character. Then again we never saw Vader’s face either and everybody loves him, so…

    Well it will be difficult but if the rumors are true and Firefly is going to be the main villain this casting is a step in the right direction.

    Ray sucked as the Punisher… what the F are you people talking about??? People, the film bombed and not only do the writers have to take the blame for a film being very crappy… but so do the actors like Mr. Stevenson
