With casting revelations about Jinx and the Blind Master it should surprise no one that the G.I. Joe sequel will certainly feature an element of Ninja action. While this might make some fans a little squirrely, you can’t argue that ninjas have been at the core of the G.I. Joe mythology since the beginning (especially in the Marvel Universe) so it does make a measure of sense to keep them on the radar for the sequel.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke recently and reinforced that fact, making mention of a “Snake Eyes story” as well as a “Joe Story” which almost seems to indicate this might feature a bit of a Snake Eyes origin tale, or it will at least branch off somewhat from the main G.I. Joe military angle.
For anyone who was concerned that perhaps The Rock was just there as a quick cameo, you do not have to worry about that either, as Di Bonaventura assures us that he will be a main focal point of the sequel and will be one of the lead characters. Check out the embedded video from Collider below.
I think many of us had a good idea that the first wave of 30th Anniversary stuff would be re-issue heavy, but just in case we weren’t fully aware, BigBadToyStore has posted pre-orders for upcoming product, which also breaks down the list of items per wave.
Wave 1 sadly only has two new figures, Sgt. Stalker and Hazard Viper mixed in with repacks of Steel Brigade, Cobra Viper, Cobra Trooper, and Iron Grenadier. Of course, the good news is, these figures are all pretty desirable army builders, so it may not be quite so painful.
Wave 2 will consist of Renegades Firefly, Renegades Duke, Renegades Snake Eyes, and Renegades Cobra Commander.
The first mid sized vehicle assortment has the Crimson HISS and Black Dragon VTOL. I’ve posted all of the pre-order links below:
We’ve just cut pricing on hundreds more items and updated the sales menus.

Okay, I already mentioned the podcast itself, but I feel compelled to make special mention of a contest we’re running at the Podcast! We have a one-of-a-kind preproduction G.I. Joe Skystriker due out in the 30th Anniversary line within the next few months.
This awesome, unique collectible can be ALL YOURS for free! You simply have to answer a few questions. These questions are all very easy, but there’s a hitch. You must have listened to some previous Podcast episodes in order to get this information!
The questions are as follows:
What’s Gary’s favorite Joe character?
What’s the only Sideshow figure that Greg has?
What was Justin’s old AOL email account?
What potentially canceled Alpha vehicle/figure does Chuck REALLY want?
Again, these are all very easily answered questions for folks who have listened to the podcast…and if you don’t know the info, hit up our Podbean Page to listen to those past episodes!
Then, once you have the correct information, send the answers to email@example.com. A name will then be drawn out of a hat and that person will win the Skystriker!
Running on four hours sleep was my excuse, don’t ask me what Chuck’s problem was…but the latest episode of What’s on Joe Mind has been posted, and it’s a doozie. We cover the gamut from G.I. Joe: Renegades to G.I. Joe Sequel news, and I have a little rant about the casting of the Blind Master.
Chuck also recounts his daring rescue of Greg from a Canadian prison and expresses his love for Poutine… that’s POUTINE.

Just yesterday we posted rumors about RZA and DJ Cotrona being possibly linked to the G.I. Joe sequel. Well, even though Jon Chu has been retweeting several articles in reference to RZA, the first semi-official confirmation is for DJ Cotrona, and it comes from the Twitter page of G.I. Joe 2 scribe Rhett Reese. In a response to HissTank.com staffer Echo7Solo, he writes:
“…that one I can confirm. DJ in the movie!”
Rumors abound that Cotrona will be playing famous Warrant Officer Flint in the Joe sequel, and I think he would make a great one. Granted, most folks haven’t seen his work, but as a huge fan of Detroit 187, I’m pretty familiar with him. He certainly wasn’t the strongest personality on that show, but I think he would still make a fine Flint. Check out a YouTube embed below for some of his work:
Again, not the strongest personality in the show, but he’s got a great foundation and a bunch of potential.
Start making some friends North of the border… JoeCanuck has gotten word from Hasbro Canada that Zellers has agreed to carry the missing Alpha Vehicles for the Pursuit of Cobra toyline, which includes the highly sought after Ashiko w/ Cycle Armor and HISS Scout vehicles!
The exact phrase of the email is below:
“Just got word from Hasbro Canada that due to the fan outpouring and
feedback on these units, Zellers has stepped up to the plate and ordered
That’s right – The HISS Scout and Cycle Armour have left Hasbro’s
warehouses and are en route to a Zellers near you! Look for them to arrive
within the next little while.
So, we said our piece, and Hasbro and Zellers listened. Now it’s up to us
to show them that it was a good decision by getting out there and buying
this stock up!
Well, as if it wasn’t clear that the G.I. Joe sequel was going to delve further into Snake Eyes’ past, it is pretty clear now.
Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision site is reporting that D.J. Cotrona will be joining the G.I. Joe team in the sequel starring as famous G.I. Joe Warrant Office Flint! Fans of Detroit 187 (such as myself) will recognize Cotrona as Detective John Stone. He certainly has the look, and he seemed like a good actor in what I saw of him during Detroit 187 (which incidently I think was one of the most underrated television shows in a long while).
In the same article, they mention rapper-turned-actor RZA is also in talks to join the G.I. Joe motion picture sequel as the “Blind Master”, who was Jinx’s chief martial arts instructor from the Arashikage Clan. The Blind Master is a pretty random name to pick out of a hat, so it certainly seems as if there may be something to this. So what we have so far in the roster (if these rumors come true) are:
Duke (Channing Tatum)
Roadblock (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson)
Flint (DJ Cotrona)
Snake Eyes (Ray Park)
Jinx (Elodie Yung)
Certainly a pretty eclectic group. Having Flint there would also make an appearance by Lady Jaye pretty likely as well. Very interesting. Really looking forward to starting to hear a bit more about who might be on the Cobra side of the roster. Time will tell.
I think most fans were already accepting this as official, but just in case, it’s now even more officially official…or is it? Just like the last semi-official announcement, this announcement came via Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Twitter Account, but it has a much more definitive air to it. It says:
“It’s official: Call the Pentagon, get me my big ass gun – Rocks a JOE!”
So I guess that counts as official, doesn’t it? These days, yes it does. All I can say is “bring it on!”
I will be very honest…regardless of how the movie turns out, I am almost giddy in anticipation of the lead up to it. Even though the shine and luster has worn off The Rise of Cobra since 2009 (yes there was actually luster and shine for me, at one point), I think the months leading up to it was some of the most exciting moments in my Joe fandom career. There is just something about reporting actual MOVIE news about my favorite property that gets my blood going. I still remember that first trailer, and while so many people were talking smack about the accelerator suits, I was just watching it over, and over, and over again.
This is G.I. Joe. This is Hollywood doing G.I. Joe! Can’t wait until summer, 2012. Once again, bring it on!!
Last week’s episode “Cutting Edge” absolutely rocked my socks off. Will this week’s episode come close to matching it? With guest appearances by Heavy Duty and Major Bludd, one would think we’re on the right track.
So what was the end result? Check out the Episode Guide to find out, or just hit the ole link below!
