JoeCon 2011 Day One – G.I. Joe Toy Recap

Well, I could probably just leave this page blank, because there was really nothing new or exciting toy-wise, at least not on the first day.

But fear not, trusty Joe fans, Hasbro is holding their seminar tomorrow at 11:00am Eastern, and I can guarantee that some great new stuff will be revealed following that.  Eager fans won’t go away from JoeCon without something new to check out.

Click the “Read the Rest of the Story” link below to see my recap.

Meanwhile, some news and notes from the day:

  • The “30 for 30” moniker was a misnomer.  There’s nothing going by that particular name.  A celebration of the 30th Anniversary will run throughout 2011/2012.
  • The Wave 2 Mech Suits w/ Alpine and Desert Scorpion are CANCELED.
  • The Wave 2 Alpha vehicles with Ashiko and HISS Scout Driver are NOT CANCELED (YAY!)  They should be coming soon.
  • Yes, Zarana is an SDCC Exclusive.  Nerd Rage begin…  NOW.
  • The aforementioned SDCC Zarana will have 25th Anniversary style packaging.

There’s been some discussion about where G.I. Joe: Renegades fits in with everything, considering the series’ “hiatus”.  Word on the convention floor is that there are still definitely Renegades toys coming this year, perhaps up to 12 different figures.  Considering how strong a presence Renegades has throughout the sales floor, I think that sounds pretty accurate.  Seeing lots of cool art and other images.

Tons of pictures especially from, and I’m mirroring just some of them below.  To check them out at the source, click here.

So, with these images, some thoughts come to mind.  First of all, damn that Cobra Crimson Horseman figure looks GREAT.  Very interesting name, interesting design.  Nice.

I also love the updated Storm Shadow uniform on that drawn artwork as well..hoping he makes that change in the Renegades animated series.

I do find it a bit weird that they haven’t yet shown Renegades Duke, Snake Eyes, Firefly, or Cobra Commander, and are still apparently holding back Stalker, Storm Shadow, and Sci-Fi, even though we saw early pics way back in February.  What’s the deal?  I would assume there will be more new stuff shown tomorrow (not just stuff we’ve already seen at Toy Fair) but not having those right out in front is a bit of a head scratcher.

I think we’ll see a lot more cool stuff probably around 12:00 – 1:00pm tomorrow.

Keep in mind that many of these toys were initially shown at Toy Fair.  I’m also mirroring my Toy Fair Galleries below so you can reference those images as well.

  1. One bit of “news” is that it looks like both the POC Cobra Trooper and Steel Brigade will be released again with the new style (don’t know if we can call it 30th Anniversary yet) packaging. I also noticed that Stalker, Viper and I.G. are shown on the new style cardback. So those stressing about army-building POC Troopers and Vipers probably need not get their panties in a twist.

  2. I wonder if the last two POC mechs are “cancelled” cancelled or “show up in Ross in a few months” cancelled like the Sand Serpent and Target Wave 3 Deluxes? I was hoping to snag an extra alpine to maybe repaint as a coat for POC Arctic Duke.
