G.I. Joe: Renegades character artist Clement Sauve succumbs to cancer

This news literally hit me out of nowhere…I had no idea he was even sick.  However, according to Ron Marz’s Twitter feed, Clement Sauve, the gifted artist behind the revamped character designs for G.I. Joe: Renegades passed away last night at the way too young age of 33.

He had apparently been battling cancer and last night lost his fight.

Whatever issues any of the fans had for the character revitalizations in G.I. Joe: Renegades, I hope we all take a few moments today to remember a gifted artist, and to consider what a great impact he had on our favorite property.  Not just with G.I. Joe: Renegades, but his work with Devils’ Due as well.

Hopefully for a moment we can all recognize and remember that there are human beings involved with every facet of this hobby that we know and love, and those human beings have the same hopes, dreams, and fears that we all do, and deserve the same level of respect that we would expect ourselves.

Rest in Peace, Clem.  Thanks for playing your part in our lives, and hopefully in the next generation as well.

It’s terrible, tragic news. He was born in ’77 like me, and I just can’t imagine going through that at this age. Far too early in life for him to be gone. I knew he was having health issues, but I had no idea he was dealing with anything so serious. The world lost a remarkable talent last night.

Wow that’s shocking!!! His work was awesome. Too bad we missed out on figures in his style. RIP

The world has lost an amazing Talent, and so young!! My thoughts are with his family. Blessings and light to them in this time of pain and darkness.

That is rough news, especially for his friends and family. And you’re right, Justin…our hobby is nothing without the people who make it possible and those we can enjoy it with. Take away the folks behind the hobby, and we’re left empty. Take away the hobby, and the people are still worth caring for.

Sad news, but an encouragement for all of us to cherish every moment.

    Oh dear God!
I had just tuned into this young man’s work–admired his exceptional talent and was looking forward to seeing what came from his hands.

Now his pencil is stilled forever.
I am shocked and saddened to learn of his passing.

    Very, very sad news.

No matter how we like or dislike what people involved with this franchise do or don’t do and how much we argue about things, it always feels like we’ve lost “one of us” when something like this happens.

May he rest in peace, my heart goes out to his family and friends.

33 years old……… that’s way too young for anyone to die. It’s a shame that so many people hated his artwork designs on Renegades and thought it was low budget and cheap just because it wasn’t up to there standers.

Well some of us loved it and always will!

Wow. Terrible news. I personally loved the look and design of GI Joe Renegades and loved his art style. A real loss to the art world. He was an extremely talented and creative artist and designer.

I cant help but think, was POC wave 4 DESTRO based on his designs? If this has been stated or proven before then I apologize.

An incalculable loss to comic and animation fans. So young, so talented, and now so much work he’ll never do.

His artwork is awesome and unique in style! May the strength, hope, and love of Jesus Christ be with his loved ones to be able to cope in this difficult time.
