First look at the Pursuit of Cobra HISS in black!

With kudos to The Terror Drome for picking this up, eBay seller viperkingdom has posted an auction for an early prototype of the upcoming HISS v.5, this time done up in black as it should have been originally.

I’ve mirrored the image below.  Usually I don’t post much about these auctions, but when it’s something we haven’t seen before, I think the fans should definitely check it out!

  1. That picture is about as clear as mud; it might be black, or it might not be black.
I’m not sure I’d be 100% behind this as a “black” HISS as the seller doesn’t even list it as anything other than this:

“G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra Snake Eyes Training prototype

Item Condition: This figure is opened and used, No accessory, all item copyright. 3.75 inchs tall, please notice the packing might demage during delivery, therefore I would say packing in NOT in Mint condition, but figure inside is new”
    That’s right off the auction.

  2. Keep in mind this is a prototype and most likely not a full production sample. Its very likely this IS just a brown/red version painted black but that doesn’t make it any less likely to be an actual prototype.

Personally I’d like to see this with a clear red canopy with all but the center panel painted black. That one red panel would look really cool and be a nice wink to the classic HISS.

  3. this from the original write-up at terrordrome….

“Hasbro says that the HISS was intended to be black originally, but a mix up at the factory gave us a dark brown.”

thats one hell of a $25 mistake.

  4. Actually I read the report from SDCC that it was supposed to be a gray color that ended up the red/brown with a possible black repaint down the line.

  5. I figure if the classic HISS is any indication, we’ll have all the color variations and repaints we can handle soon enough.

  6. Ok, to anyone who even remotely believes that Hasbro originally intended their new “desert-tank which is colored brown on the box art” HISS to be black, please contact me. I have some beautiful land to sell you ;)

Talk about back-peddling and really, also thinking Joe fans are complete morons.
