Insane gallery posted for G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA Pit Playset

I’ve been right there with the majority of the fandom on my displeasure over the Pit playset.  Maybe if it were simply named as an updated Mobile Command Center or something, there would be more love for it amongst the fans, but most of us have a very distinct idea in mind when it comes to “The Pit”, something that is almost as iconic in G.I. Joe lair as some of the characters themselves.

Even when I got a pretty up close view at Toy Fair, I came back thinking that it looked pretty cool, but was not nearly worth the hundred bucks it was going to cost.  Well, I gotta tell you, I’m softening up that hard edge BIG TIME.  Over on HissTank.com, GeneralHawk59 has posted an exhaustive gallery of images for the Pit playset, and I’m starting to get won over.  This thing is huge, with a ton of potential play value, and I can think of many fun things I could use for future dio-stories.  Still, the price continues to be at least a bit prohibitive, but man, it’s more tempting now than ever.  Combine that with the awesome Joe-scale ping pong table, the mini-posters, an awesome memorial jersey from Bazooka…I mean come ON.  There are a lot of very neat little touches mixed in here.  Still trying to hold my hard edge, though…

The thread is posted here, but I’ve also mirrored the massive gallery below.

    Damn!

    I like all the extras.
I dont want to get it mainly for lack of space.
But man it looks pretty cool when opened up.
    I’ll wait for a sale.

its certainley impressive. i like all the little touches with the old school posters (i especially like the “knowing is half the battle” thing), but the price scares me. i too shall wait for a sale or clerance.

btw, in the last pic, is hawk holding a coffee mug??

Picked it up today and nearly left Target with it, but logic and the 200 dollars worth of other Joes toys in my cart prevented me. It’s so cool to actually see vehicles again for GIJoe. It really does feel like the 80s again.

100$ and we get bunk beds hanging on the outside of the vehicle.

Better hope it doesn’t rain, Joes!

This thing has a lot of cool to it, but it’s too big and expensive for me…
A shame that Hawk and those awesome extras like the ping pong table and travel mug are only available with it, though.

Jay- This is basically an update of the old Mobile Command Center, but it opens in a sprawling way rather than into a three floor tackle box. And frankly it’s not like any of the old Joe bases ever had roofs either.

  • Jay

Fred, that may be true, but you could PRETEND it had a roof. This one is hanging on the outside, a bit harder to emulate a closed-up HQ with that.

Found it today at TOYS-R-US in Florence S.C. for $39.99 $43 something with taxes! It does however take about 5 hours to put together and add the stickers. :(
