It isn’t often that we take a little peek behind the curtain when it comes to Hasbro, Paramount, or any of the entities that weave this universe that we live in, however, Dax Berg, lead designer for Double Helix studios posts a nice little blog entry here, and gives us at least a bit of insight into his background and why this particular project (working on the G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA video game) brings him a certain type of joy. During the course of his blog, he also lets a few nice little tidbits about the game slip.
Stalker is a focus of the game as a “field commander” and gets a lot of dialogue time, though he appears to be a non-playable character
The story background for the game actually takes a classic story and “retells it” in the new G.I. Joe universe.
There will be 75 hidden filecards throughout the game (which we knew) but apparently each card will feature some very nice artwork and have been re-written by Dax and Paul Benjamin
Time will tell just how good the end product is, but if nothing else, it sounds like it’ll be a fun way to further explore the new Rise of COBRA universe…for those of us who care to, anyway. Again, check out the full article here.
So with the recent finishing of a hellish month of training and testing I had some spare time this past weekend, and did up a silly little music video for G.I. Joe: Resolute. It’s nothing great, just a project that kept me entertained for a few hours.
It’s becoming almost a daily occurrence, and ACToys.com comes through again. This time around, we’ve got some very cool pictures of the upcoming Dr. Mindbender and Strato-Viper, errr… “Air-Viper”, both from the Defense of COBRA Island 7-Pack. The more pictures I see of these items, the more fired up I get…these are some damn cool looking figures. Considering there is a lot of existing tooling being used, I can’t help but really smile at the mileage Hasbro’s getting out of it, and at the same time, be a bit melancholy that we’re not still going full steam ahead with non-movie product.
Don’t get me wrong, though, the movie stuff is looking pretty freaking sweet as well, but there’s something to be said for a bare-chested ex-dentist who now specializes in mind control. And fans are bitching about the MOVIE’S wayout concepts? Yeeeeeah…. anyway, images are mirrored below.
Apparently Hasbro Canada brought some treasures with them when they visited the Canadian Joe Con this past weekend, one of which was a COBRA Night Raven from the upcoming G.I. Joe: Rise of COBRA toyline. cmderinchief grabbed some great pics and posted them on the Coil Club. They’re mirrored below as well.
Rumors swirl about that the G.I. Joe Mighty Muggs (and Mighty Muggs in general) may be going the way of the Do Do, but mightymuggsforum.com denies those rumors, and in fact, has posted images of some potential upcoming G.I. Joe Mighty Muggs. Among these items is Zartan, Shipwreck (w/ Polly), Serpentor and a COBRA Trooper. Info can be seen at their forums here, and the images are mirrored below.
JoeCanuck message board member xhairs has posted a bunch of images of this past weekend’s Canadian JoeCon. By all accounts it was a terrific weekend! Check out all of xhair’s images here, and I’ve also mirrored a bunch of the Exclusive set pictures below.
An article posted on Welt Online has given a rundown of Burger King’s upcoming promotions tying in with Paramount and the summer blockbuster movies. They mention G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA specifically and had the following to say:
G.I. JOE:RISE OF THE COBRA
G.I. Joe BK® Kids Meals premiums: Beginning July 27, Burger King Corp. enlists G.I. Joe for an elite mission. The G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra promotion features a kids premium program filled with gadgets, action figures and vehicles that offer the ultimate adventure. “All three of these feature films boast a huge loyal fan base and have carved out a permanent place in pop culture,” added Klein. “Partnering with Paramount has allowed us to go beyond the typical tie-in property sponsorship to create all-encompassing entertainment and promotions that offer our restaurant guests a real piece of the action – in-restaurant, on their televisions, and online. Likewise, the creativity and innovation we bring to the partnership add value to the studios’ movie marketing effort.”
